Why can't I plant rye? Do I have to buy the seed somewhere?

You need to spend 2 skill points in the top tree to unlock Rye seed.

Skill points are far and few to come by, and you don't share them from region to region? I question this design decision.

each region gets it own set of skills. so if u get a kings mine on it then you should get the deep miner talen. no kings mine, dont get it cuz its a wasted point for that area

Orchards are very strong, and nearly necessary on challenging, so I will almost always take rye before plough stations.

Ryes yields far outstrip wheat, even on the best wheat soil.
