My best layout for chicken and vegetable plots
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3236837188

Chicken plots in the middle and vegetable plots for the two houses at both ends.
1. Completely self-sustained with additional food for trading.
2. Perfect rectangular shape, which is highly scalable.
3. Does not require any strange hacks. This layout is very easy to create.

It's like medieval USA lol, it's maybe "optimal" but very ugly to watch, you manage to butcher the organic very core of the game :)

omg the anti-grid meme is played out. Grids have been around since the 12th century, and they actually go back to ancient civilizations. I would also note that in big cities like Osaka in feudal Japan grid like streets were common.
Its not ugly its just not a Thomas Kincaid picturesque "medieval village" that one conjures in their mind. I agree I like the meandering roads and haphazard way that towns are laid out because it shows a natural looking asymmetrical view but ffs.

Ehi, everybody is free to build in any way they want, who cares, but if you share a screenshot I will say that it's maybe optimal, but it's ugly IMO, it's so terrible to say?

chicken plots dont matter for size right. i made some vegetable farms that are like mega sized lol. 500+ veggies per year

Only vegetable plots and apple orchards scale their output with area as far as I've noticed.

I make my veggie burgages a bit bigger than your entire block (about 20% deeper) and use a family expansion on the lot. Your method is more space efficient, but I think my method is more future proofed.

I think I'll borrow some aspects from your method. I never thought to slam some burgages in the dead space up front.

Dev spends countless hours figuring out way to allow beautifully dynamic roads and build plots in his city builder allowing for breathtakingly organic villages.
...people still min-max grid with as many carrot farms as humanly possible.

From the “I wish Banished had free placement and it wasn’t all on a grid” to this.

why don't we let people enjoy building and sharing what they like. That would not be my choice of a layout either. Yet I can see very logical design choices for efficiency. I like Manor Lords for its high easthetical customization so it would allow me to build a nice and round village like in frostpunk and that was probably part of the reason I bought this game. Otherwise I would have sticked with furthest Frontier. We all got our own preferations though and I really don't mind how others build their villages.

Obviously the people who didn't like grids in that game are not the ones making grids in this game.

It can't be self sustainable. Chickens provide only one egg per month. And if your gardens provide enough veggies to everyone you will lack as much eggs as you have veggie houses.

I couldn't find any information about how consumption works in Manor Lord, but it seems like people will adjust their food consumption based on how much food you have left for that specific type. I have been running this layout for a couple of years, and there is a surplus of both eggs and veggies.

Haha, well, you can use this type of repeatable layout in some of the side towns that you are too busy to manage, while keeping the main town organic and artistic.
