can't hire more than 1 retinue

My 5 men starting unit got wiped out, I go to customization to hire more but it won't let me hire more than 1. I see it cost 50 and I have 1700 something but the button is greyed out, what am I missing?

Do you have 1700 in the village wealth or in your lord's private funds? Retinue is payed from presonal funds. You get those funds by taxes and raiding banditcamps.

If your retinue got wiped, did the unit card also get removed? If so, those guys are gone. For lack of being able to reproduce this on my end (just bought 7), I'm going to lean toward this case. If their unit card is gone, try demolishing and rebuilding the manor in that region. Building one in another region will add a second/etc retinue card, but will count against the 6 total unit cards.
