It takes ages... but it worked for me
It takes a while to get going but is very worth it if you don´t have huge large forest areas.
You can alternate the manually defined circle of use of your woodcutters, while foresters are planting trees elsewhere. Then a year or two later, switch up the areas. That kind of thing. And have the tree planter building maxed with the two workers. 1 is too slow.
The trick I've found it to surround my (fully staffed) logging camp with ~3 foresters. That is enough to keep tree production up within the range that the loggers are working.
Regarding the trees: As in real life - trees take time to grow. Trees actually take years (plural) to grow. They do that in the game too - don't know if trees grow naturally or only via the forrester hut though - but do get the forrester hut. It also allows you to plant forrests where you want (making your village look that much better
My advice, you need clear space as you grow, so at the start of the game, start chopping where there is forest where you'd like to build later, and when that is clear, move your choppers to another area.
- Build a road into a forest.
- Build Logging Camps and Woodcutters on the road at the edge of the forest and let them clear the tree's.
- As the tree's are cleared leapfrog the logging camps and woodcutters along the road to keep pace with the retreating treeline.
- Once you feel you have penetrated the forest deeply enough to clear the land you want to use for other purposes add two Foresters Huts per Logging Camp as close to the logging camps as possible and stop moving them.
- The foresters will begin to plant new tree's all around your logging camps and woodcutters creating a dense woodland all around your timber producers.
Note: In the image the four Foresters Huts are unmanned as Foresters do not plany trees in the winter months and so have been re-assigned to farming and other duties until the spring.
