How am I suppose to hold up to the ennemy??
So my village is in its second year so far. Got 77 people, roughly 300 influence, and an "army" of 40 men.

That baron up north is claiming all the tiles one after the other, with an army of 400 men that keeps growing. I haven't had any encouter so far, cuz I'm avoinding all confrontation, letting him take over the land.

How the hell am I suppose to put up with this?? Is it me who's not doing things right? It seems to me that I'm doing pretty fine for now... Is this game mode even winnable?

How do I get strong enemies like that? I'm playing on challenging and he always fields the same army when attacking me.

1 retinue
2 melee milita/mercs
1 brigand merc
1 bow merc.

roughly 150 units.

Just wait. He'll eventually claim your starting region and you'll likely have to fight a battle where it'll make you have to march across the map to confront him.

But how can I win if he's ten times stronger than me?

Don't let him get that far ahead of you, attack bandits early, the first bandit tent you see, go attack it, you will most likely win. Get mercenaries as well. First time I also played very passive and got swarmed by a army twice my village size but 2nd playthrough I took all territories pretty easily. Don't be afraid to restart.

That's the major issue with the game at the moment, the out of map Baron jerk has limitless resources so he can send his troops to take all the lands within the first 12-16 months of the game, while you're still barely scrapping by. Then within the 2nd year, he's marching on your lands and you will die pretty much, so restart time.

The only way to avoid all this is by getting your manor up asap, as well as your trading post. Getting lots of money through trade will allow you to import goods, get taxes, hire mercenaries all the while upgrading and expanding your town. I went from 1 territory to 4 within 5 months after I established lucrative trade funds.

I am still only building up my town on my starting territory, have over 350 people, max retinue, max militia, and hired mercenary band 24/7 to guard while I am building. Not to mention over 65k in regional wealth, importing basically everything I want, and not even taxing my people anymore as my treasury is sitting about over 60k when I only pay my mercs 90 silver a month, lol. I wish there was a bit more to be done though, like having cavalry, siege engines, building walls around my settlement instead of just my manor. Ah well, more updates hopefully.

I did get my army out once to attack bandits, but I noticed that by doing so, my village became partly paralysed. Transportation will continue, but a lot of activities seemed stopped. For example, at the bloomery, nothing was being done. I had the son and father gone, as soldiers, and the wife was on "waiting" stance, while there was iron ore waiting in storage. Are there some jobs women won't do?

That observation had me think twice about letting my army out anymore....

Take your time. Develop. Prepare.

AI Baron is considered stronger than you. It's not a player who starts from nothing.

I think the Baron needs a little more balancing at the moment. I was destroyed in my last play through. The Baron was claiming regions before the 1st month ended. On year 3 I had to fight him for my starting region. The Baron sent 2 waves with a total of 300+ soldiers. I was only able to muster up around 70 to fight. With that said, I was playing on challenging with aggressive Ai and I wont deny my own skill issue.

With a little patience I am sure the Dev will get to addressing these issue. For now I recommend changing the AI aggressive so that they only claim neutral regions and defend their own. I found this to be the most enjoyable way to play. It allows you as much time as you need to build up without the threat of a massive army until you are ready to face them.

Oh well, I had no idea we could achieve that level lol....

I didn't send my militia to take out bandits, only cleared out their abandoned camps after the baron had already killed them off before I even arrived, which still gives you the option to send the money to your treasury or the village. I sent it to the village every time, did that 3 x and it was enough to kick start the counter attacks on that caca Baron.

Like you said.. his armies keep growing. I haven't let it get to that point before. Early on use militia + retinue to beat bandit camps without loses. Or use one of them to piggy back an AI squad that goes for bandit camps. And yoink them as the AI fights the bandits.

This will give silver and influence.. there's a bit of RNG however. First playthrough I was able to beat 6-7 camps before the AI even sent a mini army after one of them. Had 1000+ silver before his first attempt at a territory claim.. stomped the AI army with mercs and my guys.

Second playthrough. I didnt even have a manor up yet. before the AI sent armies for camps... so used militia to piggy back and yoink two of them. Then the AI was already claiming territory right after... so used the silver to hire whatever mercs I could.

Won the first battle but it wasn't in the zone... and didn't count , so had to reload the game. This time it's a pain in the butt. My troops take ages to reach eachother before more wages go through and run out... so might have to let him win the first claim and be more ready for the second.. we'll see.

Don't be afraid to save scum so you can try things out. It's winnable, just alotta variables that change the circumstances... goodluck
