Seeking advice for wood problems
Greetings, traveler.

I am struggling with timber - and for that matter also firewood - supply, and was hoping someone might have some advice for me on how to handle my wood problems.

  • 1 Forester's Hut, Families: 2
  • 1 Logging Camp, Families: 1
Both buildings have their respective working areas limited to the exact same area with the exact same size. (I am very precise on that measurement, or I can't sleep at night)
The Problem
Trees are being logged down way faster than new ones are being planted.

I have tried out to place up to 3 different 'Planting+Logging'-Zones and rotate the woodcutters around. Always keeping 2 families in the Forester's Huts for all year-round planting coverage.
With the goal to have trees re-grow while the woodcutters are working in the area, which has grown trees again.
Still no success. Maybe one zone more?
But with one more zone the next problem is beginning.
There is only so much space available in the nearby areas of my village. Placing my 'Planting+Logging'-Zones too far away will cause time management issues for the transport of these goods.

Cheers.

"Trees are being logged down way faster than new ones are being planted."

HUman history in a nutshell.

i have currently one log camp with 2 families. 2 forester buildings with 4 families in total and it seems they cant keep up, not sure yet.

It takes 3 years for the forester's new trees to be ready to harvest. Are you rotating around that idea?

Greetings, traveler. I am struggling with timber.
Foresters don't plant during the winter months, and saplings take quite a while to mature into trees. In my game I'm really taking time to develop the settlement at a leisurely pace. I find that moving forward slowly, gives the trees time to grow. I would experiment with a mid-sized area for cutting and planting (somewhere around 50%). Early to mid game, I manage with just one family in both forester and lumberjack, with one firewood gatherer in the same work circle as well. While that's going on, have a second forester planting a second area in preparation for the switch over. When there's no more trees to cut down, move the lumberjack to the second area, together with the firewood gatherer. Leave both foresters in place. Works for me...

Some players prefer to have three logging zones rather than two.

Obviously, choose logging areas that don't compete with town buildings for space.

Happy Hunting :steamsunny:

Trees take a long time to re-grow. The replanting area and the wood-cutting area must not be the same.
Alternating between several logging camps (I have 3) is wise anyway because of the limited storing space.
Also, you can use the "Move" option to relocate the camp closer to the forest.

dont.... i repeat.... DO NOT LIMIT their area of work, logger, forester or firewoodcollector.
works awesome for me when they can do whatever they want.

they roam freely and plant anywere they can, fell trees were they want and collect firewood were they can.

just watch out for the animal areas for hunters, the loggers keep a big area in a circle nearly clean

Good tips here, all I can add is:

If you have problems with trees call 0800-SARUMAN. Might backfire.

I think that both play styles can work, depending on the player's town build layout. I prefer to lock my logging and firewood areas down (as I've got a touch of OCD).

Please add a whip to the FPV guy so I can sort out the lazy plebs at the sawmill. Thanks

In the early game, think about where you want to town to expand and log that area down / around it.

In the later game once you've hitting small/med/large town status you'll have a much better idea of which part of your land you can designate has long term forest growth areas. Pick a couple of spots and have a single forester family replanting those areas.

Logging happens very quickly. Replanting takes something like 5+ years for the trees to become harvestable again. It's a very long term mind set you need to have.

Honestly... abandon any kind of thinking that you're going to have a sustainable forest industry where logging, charcoal, firewood and forestry all happen in the same area all the time. It just isn't reality.

That works until you run out of woods lol. I just did today on mine. Lol

Foresters require some micro to be most efficient, otherwise they will just plant in the immediate area of the hut. Use the "Limit work area" to spread out their job over the work season, as they don't plant during the winter, and you will be smothered by dense forest in no time. Once you get the hang of it, a Logging Camp won't be able to keep up.
