Retinue/ Make it Easier to get
I spent about 12 hours of playtime on a single map and when I got my 5 retinue it was all great but than as the time went on I upgraded my village to the town level and got all the equipment needed to get new retinue and built a garrison tower but I was stuck with my 5 retinue only the whole time, the only other way I saw after looking it up for an hour was to buy retinue but each soldier COSTS 50 GOLD!!!! So I might be doing something wrong but can you please make it easier to get retinue because they never just automatically joined as I had all the armor needed, maybe I am doing something wrong but really do not think that I am
I do realize that this is primarily a city building game but the city building is very limited to a point so please devs can you change this

Building level 2-3 homes will let you generate regional wealth within the settlement, having a manor lets you tax said homes. While giving negative approval taxing your settlements when you have a ton of level 2-3 homes gives you thousands of coins for your treasury. Then you can not only buy all the retinue but also upgrade them.

While I completely understand your sentiment, I think part of why they are so expensive is their stats:

Example Brigand Raiders;

Example Retinue:

Perhaps an alternative would be to have a less powerful variant available to the player earlier on.

Just setup a simple trading business and get that money, you will be rolling in money! ;)

You miss the point. Retine different from militia by intention. This is why it works in a very different way. Militia is your peasants usually working in the fields etc taking weapons only when you call them to arms. Retine is your elite personal guard. They are doing nothing and spending all the time in your manor. They are more skilled more customisable and harder to get (actually not that hard). If you need just more easy obtainable troops - just create a new militia regiment. Everything you need is some free man in you settlement and proper equipment.

The way it's balanced is perfect

It's perfectly balanced I think, it's quite easy. Average out so all your houses are at least level 2, makes sure you have SOME sort of trade (tools tends to work well), tax them for one month, boom, easily 5-10 more retainers right there.

You're not selling anything. Trade is vital, and you need to have the trade perk and the good deals one. Those two are a must.

If perk is a must - it is bad designed and should be rewoked or turned on by default. Because if there is no place for choise and decision - the unneccesary clicks should be removed.

It's a must in the same way that getting plowing and rye is for better farming results, you can play without them and farm, but it's better if you have them.

If you want to spend less money on trade routes and import fees, then you'll want the trading perks,
