The AI pathing for plowing makes the shape of the field very important.
Large squares are very very bad, as the plow spends a lot of time walking back and forth.
Long and skinny, however, means that the plow is almost always plowing, and is way more efficient.
Honestly, I have way more trouble harvesting than plowing. Always have tons of time to plow/sow many fields, but even with an absurd amount of farmers the single harvest month of September never manages to harvest every field before October hits.
Yep, it's better to do little fields. We are not in america.
And, i'm also from those who upgrade the camp to kill homeless negative points (when i'm almost building a church). It avoid me to build 5 houses directly. Especially if you play in "demanding" for the needs.
I don't suggest to start farming directly if you start in winter. (You can't plow anyway) You have to manage your food quickly so ...
