Purchasing horse on trader?

I see that you can purchase a horse on the trader but what does it do. It doesn't seem like there is any limit you can purchase. You just have to wait each month. What do these horses do and can you have too many?

horses are for the trader so they can carry more to the map edge (trade route) you need to have a hitch post . Yes to many horse will just waste your money as they will run away if you dont have a post for them. you really only need one for the trader or two if you have at least 3 traders or so . If you build another trader, you can get another horse if you want.

So I actually just found out you have to go to the trading post, click advance, and manually assign livestock to it. It will them automatically choose a horse if you have one

As stated above, you have to assign the horse in the advanced tab of trader. Horses transport a LOT more goods, so it greatly increases your export power. Once I really get my production up and running I tend to have 3 or 4 fully staffed traders with 2 horses each, then I can afford to pay to maintain every mercenary in the game.
