Windmill operation?
I am bit confused as to how it works even after reading several posts on the windmill. I wonder if it is that a windmill has to be completely full with grain i.e. 250 grains in order for the miller to start milling? The grain gets transported to the windmill, but then the miller is just 'waiting' = no flower. I currently have 80 grains in the mill, just waiting...am I missing something? And btw,- the windmill is well located with efficency in the high 90-ies and no trees sourrounding it and it also has road connection.

Greetings,

- The mill must be staffed to operate.
- The granary must also be staffed to deliver the grain.
- The granary must have space for the processed items.

I will normally leave it idle till there is 60 plus supply, then process it, then shut it down again.
- Early start the only option to process the flower to bread is with a communal oven.
(it also needs employment, same deal work it then shut it down.)
- Later, a level 2 house can support a bakery extension.
(but only after that option is selected in the development tree upgrades wheel, it's a 2nd level selection of Farming from top right area. After the heavy plow upgrade)

Sidenote: It seems the performance of the windmill is better, if you place it on higher ground. At least the game tells you so after placing.

Oh, but the mill was staffed. The grainery was staffed. The granery had plenty of space. Communal oven was there. Windmill was placed out in the open where it said nearly a 100% efficiency, and there was plenty of wind making trees sway everywhere else. Still it took the windmill more than two in game harvest seasons to start operating.

Same problem here, and i bypass all the wtf about field and grain, because that would take me few posts.
I got 5 poor grain last year and at some point they have been used and probably used to mak a bread and eated right away...
this year i have 72 grains on my farm an no one want to move it from farm to mill... maybe they need to be transported by the granary wich istoo far away? idk
Maybe the raid destroy link from some structure... idk
i have also 2 cows waiting for transport

I didn't expect the game to be bugged as much on basic mechanic. :/

Very strange, maybe i should start another game

I play without raiders - I'm busy enough with learning the ropes even in peaceful times, lol! But somehow logging out and returning to the game helped? - idk, but for now it seems to work. I have plenty of flour to make bread. Could it be that the game is slow to 'catch up' or update new buildings/operations?

1 grain + 1 family + (=>1%) efficiency = Windmill running

Game is buggy, restarting fixes it a lot.

My first two mills did not work, but the third does. First two were in the town, the third one is on top of a hill with no trees or buildings around. Grain > flour takes seconds. Good luck.

I finally figured it out.. to make flour, you need your farm to thresh the wheat into grain.. for the mill to make flour.. there is a section under advanced to prioritize threshing... other wise if the fields are too big they will never be able to thresh

Yes, I know. Thing is, my wheat was all threshed and ready to be milled - everything was ready, still took the windmill a very long time to start running

do u have a grainery near with workers to transport the grain to mill?

The mill is buggy, it take time to refresh sometimes ... often, you get suddenly 30 floors coming from nowhere in the mill.

The grain had all been delivered to the windmill. It only needed to start.
