Villagers not taking weapons?
Is anyone else having this problem?

I have 3 settlements, 3 retinues, and a platoon of each type (spear, militia, archer, and polearms), with the platoons all coming from my main settlement. Even though each of the settlements have enough weapons and armour, the people aren't taking them back to their houses for some reason, and I can't make any more platoons. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I would rally my spear militias just to see how they work. They would pull their weapons from the storage and then return them to storage after I dismissed them. Then I had to take on a bandit group and they rallied with weapons and fought the bandits. This game them experience if you look at their stats. When I dismissed them this time they took the weapons back to their homes and did not return them to the storage. If I want more militia or replace the 6 or 7 that died I have to make or import more weapons.

Also if you select Archers and dont have any bows they will not rally. So if you have spears select spear militias.

I got the necessary weapons for my militia, the weapons are in the storehouse but no one grabs them. I don't know who manages weapons, workers at storehouse or if individual fights have to get the weapons themself. My weapons are waiting in storehouse and i can't rally my militia until people have them in their houses.

So, weapons and armor are divyed up based on citizen rank and militia role. Obviously a sword unit isnt going to be taking spears, but also the armor available is based entirely on citizen rank, meaning poorer strata (tier 1 burgages) won't be able to wear much at all, whereas the richest (t3 burgs) will be pretty well strapped.

Its my understanding that when you draw up a militia, villagers who join it will grab their weapons and armor either from the storehouse or from the specialist's shop stall if you allow them to have them, and they will keep them in their homes.

Now if you've got a fully manned spearman unit and you have a good surplus and its still just sitting at like 20 spears or whatever, thats abnormal and probably a bug I would think

If your villagers wont take weapons just dismiss the unit and create it again, it worked for me

Greetings,

Disable the weapons storage at the warehouse,
- Allow the shops to fill up there storage.

And finally set up a single warehouse only for weapons.
- May take quite a bit of time to move any 1st warehouse stores to the new location.

Also assemble the militia (s) in the town, then disband them. check if the arms are stores in houses.
- Only time I saw this was if the Militia were never used for any fighting,
- Moved them around but never fought them.
- They took all the weapons and brought them back to a storage location. Thought it was strange then.

As posted, It seems that once they gain some experience they keep the Arms.

Villagers who are members of the local militia will help themselves to the weapons and armour they are entitled to according to the unit type. e,g, Militia Spearmen will help themselves to a spear and a large shield.

Once they have the basic equipment they will join their unit. So, if you have 20 x Spears and 20 x Large Shields (which is the free starting pack) you will have a Militia Spear Unit of 20 x Spearmen.

If you buy or make another 10 x Spears these will simply sit in storage until you buy or make another 10 x Large Shields. Whereupon a further 10 x Spearmen will collect their equipment and join their unit, assuming you have enough recruits available.

Military equipment being used to equip militiamen is stored in their homes, and so you can see which families have men serving in the militia.

Any military equipment stored in a warehouse is surplus to requirements. Either because there are no militiamen available to use it, or because it has not yet been collected.
