Game immeadiately replaces dead villagers?

Hi,
Tried the trader achievement, where you are not allowed to use berries and hunting until some city level.
I failed in getting enough food, so my people starved to death. I wanted to see how this ends..
I lost 5 vills in total before i skipped. But they were directly replaced so i always had the 15 from beginning. No matter what. I got 2 messages with new family member, but only 2, not 5.
I dont get why i not dropped to 10 people?

Bug? Am i missing something?

The point of failing to feed your people - and nothing happens, because you get immeadiate replacements all the time..
