How do you buy a trade route?
It seems like I am missing the icon?

if you look on the right side of the trading drop box you can see some text that says "establish trade route". It took me ages to work this out lol.

what if I spent first 30 gold on something else can I earn money without trading?

you can upgrade homes to level 2, so they give money

Simple resources do not require you to buy a trade route in order to export them.
You can export planks and make some money that way right from the beginning.
