Which game mode is playable?
From what I have been reading in the forum, any mode with the off map adversary will not be playable due to the AI claiming all regions way to fast.

So can anyone confirm if the only playable option is without AI in the game (more like a sandbox mode)?

You can play with the off screen AI lord, you can play without the AI off screen lord, you can play with bandit raids, you can play without bandit raids, you can play till you dominate the map, you can play endlessly.

And even in the easiest sandbox mode, I find the game beyond broken, farming is the biggest obstacle.

I have NO IDEA how that made it past alfa testing!
Feels to me like the dev was finding the potential millions of cash roiling in was more important than an actual acceptable early access for THIS PRICE!

If the game was $10, I would have no issues, but the greedy price (remember, only "ONE" dev here) makes me loose trust in the dev, even though it IS impressive being from one person, but NOT in this state with that high of a price.

I thought the price was reaosnable myself, only 30$ with day one purchase and the game seems pretty fun. But thats my own opinion.

Out of curiosity what was your troubles in farming?

To answer the OP - Yes, there is a raider only version and an enemy free version. There is also an unreleased on-map ai coming. They are settings like the Civilization games if you know how those work.

Regarding the AI off map adversary: game 2 of playing the off map adversary: seems to be claiming regions quickly after the first. You have around 2 years before the ai starts claiming regions, it’s quicker after the first. The raiders will be your main issue first depending on how you set the AI. Still fun, I recommend waiting if you don’t want to pay $30 but def recommend if you’ve been excited for it and want to give it a try. $30usd is steep for its current content but it’s day 3 of EA and I’d rather start play testing now and throw in feedback. Will be worth the full amount at full release imo.

To the reply, I found it challenging at first with the only hand-holding at the first main points and imo the tooltips menu doesn’t really help at this moment, buts it is just one dev! After I did some messing around in sandbox/enemy free and I got a better understanding, still learning but if you want any tips or have questions feel free to reach out!

If with game mode you mean the different difficulty templates, yes they are all playable. For the ones with AI opponent, I mean you can simply stick to your starting region, then build up enough so you can challenge the AI and take back the regions he took. Like why would it not be playable? Yes AI is quick in taking regions, but it's not like as if you can't take them back from AI.

Only thing you had no control over map starting, I think map is same, I'm not sure about resource, you get random starting map that you had no control over, but it's basic same map but starting is random. You could start on southwest, you could start in northeast, it's place random that you had no control over.

I haven't tried to "free build" mode yet. I've only tried the normal settings. In my most recent attempt I did set the initial bandit raid to 3 years instead of 2. It didn't matter. I actually had enough armed men to fight them, but after my archers fired 1-2 volleys of arrows (which didn't kill ANYONE), they just stopped firing altogether. I don't know if they were too close to the enemy or what, but after they over ran my one platoon of infantry, they slaughtered all my archers, despite being pretty outnumbered.

It definitely seems tuned to be a bit more difficult than it should be at the start. Because of this, I haven't managed to get past 3 or so years before getting wiped.

And also yes, the AI off-map lord claims regions WAY too quickly.

Yes, farming is an issue. It gets a little better the more families you employ.

it took me probably 12 hours, but once I figured everything out farming worked quiet well. Took a lot of failures though.

some region isn't good with farm, so you end up had to use trade. I think southwest map is bad with farm area, assumed it's same map for everyone but random starting map.

its the same map, but everytime you start a new game, the resource spots, as well as fertility changes.

it also changes which region you start with, and which regions the AI lord has at the starts if you have the off map lord turned on.

but yea, there generally are 2 regions per map good for farming, i made my https://imgur.com/a/1coMecl farm village in a region where literally the entire region has a +++ for rye. https://imgur.com/a/nFIQQrm

Just to reiterate on this. If you set the AI aggressiveness to Reactive then he will not attack you, allowing you to build up a proper army. If you go in with just the default settings then he will come to control your territory around year 5, no matter how far you've gotten.
