Problem with upgrading a house to level 3.
Okay, please explain to me how I can upgrade my house to level 3?
Yes, I saw the requirements for this in the game, but my main problem is the tavern.
I have 2 of them, and one of them is very close to the houses, there is access to it, it’s even next to the road.
I read that one of the upgraded houses should make "ale" as an upgrade. (And he also stands next to the tavern). I did that too, but my tavern still doesn't work. There is always one person in the tavern (who works).
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

Thank you.

I did not get Ale from houses. Instead I imported them (trade post - expensiv, but possible - got 15 level 3 houses without own ale production, buuut - its very expensive.
I rode somewhere here, that you can make own Ale ... but I did not figure it out by myself.

And sometimes, things are bugged - try save and reload more often, or build a bigger church, so by the will of god, the bug will be removed like a miracle xD

My church is level 2, but the game god is not happy that my settlers drink alcohol. Unfortunately, he won't help me.
The most interesting thing is that I restarted the game, but this problem was not solved. But in my first and unsuccessful attempt, the tavern worked as expected. Sad.

You need to farm Barley.
Malthouse creates Malt
Malt needed in the level 2 house with a Brewery attachment.

Once you have that going, you can put some people in the Tavern to "Serve" the ale

This sounds even more difficult than I thought.
I also have a problem with farming, I'm still trying to figure it out.
One field of wheat of 1 hectare (it seems) gives me no more than 40 millet or wheat.
But the barley that I tried to plant does not bring me any harvest at all.

Making your own ale requires: barley farm > malthouse > upgraded house making ale > tavern. Importing ale is pretty expensive, but importing barley seems more economical if you don't have a good place to grow it and you can staff the malthouse and have a level 2 house available to make the ale.

Frustrating to say the least. I have had the same EXACT problem since purchasing the game, and have played more than 300 hours so far.

As is the case with the first 4 cities I created since delving into the game, this is ALWAYS my "I give up" stopping point, the place where I start over and see if any new city I create will have a working "ale/tavern system" or face the same problem.

I'm now on my 5th city, and as always, in every single instance, I have everything I need...

- plenty of Malt in the trading post or storehouses
- plenty of brewers in their backyards churning out ale by the dozens,
- and a ready tavern, of course

BUT NOT ONCE in any of the 5 games has any of the workers at the tavern - 3 families each game - done ANYTHING but stand around while being marked as "waiting."

- I've tried adjusting the various restrictions by raising / lowering the storage limit numbers and checking or unchecking the boxes for Malt and Ale in the special tab.

- I have built multiple buildings of the same type to test whether availability is a factor

- I have built the different buildings farther apart on the map, or next to each other, or a combination of each, and absolutely NOTHING works to fix same the non-working tavern situation.

- I've done as some people have suggested regarding setting all of the granaries to stop accepting ale due to a possible bug / problem

- I've also tried purchasing ale directly from trading posts and it's always the same non-working situation.

Bottom line, I can not get any house to raise up to Level 3, even though all the other requirements for advancement have been met (2 clothing types, an upgraded church, etc.). At this point, I'm frustrated for certain, but the opening parts of the game regarding city design and growth still hold my interest -- yet, if nothing can be done about this problem I'm sure the appeal of my limited growth to level 2 will quickly wear off.

In order to make ale, you need:

1. Barley

Either from a barley farm or from imports. In my experience, importing barley up to a limit of 50 units is plenty to keep the flow of ale going.

2. a Malthouse

Set the fuel reserve to something between 5 and 10, barley reserve to 0 and malt production limit to 500 or so. Fill it up with families.

3. a Backyard Extension Brewery.

In order to build a brewery, you need at least a regional wealth of 5 and at least 5 planks, otherwise you cannot build it. Beware that building a brewery takes all resident families from the designated burgage plot out of the pool of available workers permanently! Set barley reserve to 0 and ale production limit to 500 or so.

Attention!: Having less than 5 regional wealth or less than 5 planks in stock when attempting to build a brewery is the only legitimate in-game reason why you would be unable to build it. Otherwise you are encountering a bug that needs to be reported in the "Stable Branch Bug Reports" subforum!

4. a Tavern

Fill it up with families. You can set an ale reserve in the tavern that may help you accumulate a number of ales before you start distributing them, helping you meet the conditions for upgrading your houses to level 3. If you first build up a reserve and then switch off the "reserve" option in the tavern, the barkeepers will now have 50, 100 or whatever number you chose of ales to distribute among your citizens, and instead of a "trickling effect", you'll have a steady supply of ale for a limited time, giving you better conditions for upgrading houses.

In order to upgrade your houses from level 2 to level 3, in addition to all the requirements being met, you need the necessary build materials (planks, timber, rooftiles made from clay...) as well as 25 silver from your regional wealth per burgage plot.
So you cannot upgrade your houses while being broke from importing expensive ale. That might be a factor.
