Clothes
I need to upgrade to Burgage L2 in order to start tailoring to make clothes. But I need a clothing stall in order to upgrade to Burgage L2. Am I missing something?

You need to build a market square somewhere; Villagers who run the workshop (In this case, the guy who runs the Tannery) will automatically set up a family stall to distribute their good. This is the case with almost all commodities that dont require a building to dsitribute.

@derp12332112 that's not what he meant. He meant that it is not possible to produce clothes by yourself without importing them via trading post first. It is a strange bottleneck: clothes are extremely expensive to import.

Use a tanner. You need leather or Linen. Stall will do the rest.

Build a Tannery. They make clothes out of the hides you get from your Hunting Camp

Get some goats in your backyards and use a tanner to turn their hides to leather. Hunters also provide some occasional hides. I found it out by accident like most things in this game.

There are 3 types of level 1 clothing: Hides, Yarn and Linen.
There are 3 types of level 2 clothing: Shoes, Cloaks, and Clothes.

Level 1 burgage plots need one type of level 1 clothing to be happy.
Level 2 burgage plots need one type of level 1 clothing and one type of level 2 clothing.

I forgot that hides and leather were not the same thing! Was waiting for a market stall to open up selling hides until I remembered the tannery actually existed as a building I could construct. Funny silly little mistake lol

Nope!

Right from the start your families will need clothing and as the population becomes more affluent (e.g. Level 2 and Level 3 families) they expect more choice of what to wear.

However, it's not that complicated to meet the demand.
  • At Level 1: Before even upgrading a single burgage Plot make sure you build a Tannery to process the hides harvested from your Hunters into Leather which is your basic clothing item for Level 1 families. Simply give your Tanners the right to sell their Leather on the market and they will create the necessary Clothing Stall.

  • At Level 2: You cannot build any artisan workshops until you have upgraded your burgages to Level 2, so you need to satisfy the basic clothing demand to make that possible using your Tannery. Once you can upgrade to Level 2 then the next Level of Clothing can be produced by building a Cobblers Workshop. Cobblers produce shoes and again by giving them their own market stall you increase the amount of clothing choice on the market satisfying your second tier clothing demand. Shoes are also a good Export item and so you can begin exporting the excess production.

  • At Level 3: The choice of clothing becomes more situational as it depends upon the resources you have available in the Region. Tailors shops are best suited to farming regions where you can grown Flax and make Linen. But Weavers Workshops can make Yarn from Wool if you have invested in Sheep. But by now you are also probably looking at producing Gambesons for you militia so there is a juggling act to consider between keeping the demand for clothing satisfied and equipping your army.
