Game difficulty options.
i didnt actually change any settings so i dunno why i got 4 years
i mean i could but it still feels like if you leave it at default, which 99.9% of new players would, they are just gonna get absolutely demolished and be like wtf just happened
New player. Can confirm. What the ♥♥♥♥ just happened?
True but it's ok to lose now and then. I love a good challenge. This game plays like many older games. They take time to master but when you do then you can crank the settings up. The problem is that games are too easy nowadays so people aren't used to getting challenged
I might lose my first gsme but only just. Once I learn and develop my regions faster I can turn the Ai lord aggressiveness back to balanced.
a game with no tutorial, bugs and many unfinished systems has absolutely no position to beat you on the default difficulty within a few hours lol
if it was the full game and there were other scenarios that actually taught you the game and how to actually build an army (because tbf that isnt even obvious either you have to figure it out yourself) then fine, if there were more policies and diplomacy to play with, fine, but there isnt
you either win by force or lose by force and by default, literally, i would bet all new players will just be more confused and annoyed because they wont even know why they lost lol
plus this game on default is basically a game of trying to find the quickest way to cheese up to an army and influence, and i hate those kinda games because it just becomes a box ticking exercise where you HAVE to do things and every scenario plays virtually the same
there needs to be a lot more ways to gain policy points and level up your village to medium and large for example as right now its just rush the same things at the start of a game
Here's a viewpoint from another "old schooler" like yourself. I was expecting an initial learning curve failure, where I'd be competing to keep up with the Baron over dozens of hours while we chipped away at the map. Based on previous game experiences, I expected they'd control maybe 70-80% by the time I was established and needs met. From there, build up an army. This would be the deciding point whether I can push back, but based on sheer numbers alone I don't expect victory.
Second playthrough would be similar, but with more knowledge and probably keep up to where the Baron controls 50-60% which is pretty standard. Then it's an "even" contest going forward from there.
In reality in ML, you have ~2 years before you've exhausted your starting resources (unless you were lucky to get an upgraded iron node) and need to expand. Unfortunately, in 2 years you've barely made enough influence to claim a second territory while the opponent still controls everything else with a 600+ army. That is not "challenging", that is near impossible.
This doesn't seem to work reliably, I think the description also states that they will invade, but only when yours is the last region to conquer.
to be fair militia vs the brigands is kinda weird i agree, somehow a militia is taking ages to beat brigands 1:1 ratio when they are using awful equipment and youve given them shields and spears lol
the retinue is way better but costs a lot more so early on its kinda not possible to get more :/
No that's balanced. In reactionary the Ai Lord doesn't attack you at all. They only defend against your invasions. Check out the setting description out on the main menu.
I'm worried I'm gonna have to restart with this setting. I wish you could change settings during a run, I don't want to lose my village but I've got to find a way to make swords fast.
I set bandits to not start raiding for 3 years after start, and just got the 365-countdown for the first raid. Time is ticking. I figure if I can't even take on the bandits when it happens, then I might as well restart with 'reactionary'.
I do agree with your last part. It will get old very fast if the only way to best the Ai lord is to start the same way everytime to cheese things. No doubt we will see plenty of more variation in the future with on map Ai lords and different maps etc.
