So wtf are these supposed to do other than carry logs around?

I have grain that needs to be transported but these lazy sobs aren't transporting it despite the granary being nearby. It seems like the only people transporting are the people working at the windmill. am i missing something or is this how its supposed to go

Unassigned cattle will assist with certain tasks like transporting logs etc. and some construction materials - however, they can also be specifically assigned to certain buildings to speed up transport.

upgrade them to stables.. and make sure you have people assigned there to take care of the animals.

well, hitching posts (and their upgraded building, stables), are more of a place for your ox (or horse) to live/stay. but yes, the ox's main job is for hauling (pretty much only, I haven't seen an example of them not doing it). once you get the plow technology, though, you can use them to plow your fields by assigning oxen to the farmhouse.

is there a list of what they can transport or is it a mystery? they dont seem to help transport the grain so my peasants have to fetch it themselves

also it should be noted that even if your oxen were to transport them instead of your peasants, you would still need a peasant guiding the oxen, so irregardless you're having a peasant being used to transport wheat.

I believe they're used by traders to transport goods abroad.

can you stop them from moving logs around? they are such a waste of time if you want logs to stay where they are for future construction

i have figured it out and it seems that apart from early game ox are kinda useless and you dont need many, just to transport logs around to build.

i had a farmhouse full of workers stop working on a field as soon as i assigned livestock to it and because the field was far away it takes much more time for the ox to plough the field than the farmers.

just move your hitching post(or build another) next to the farmhouse

how do you start with more than 1 space for hitching posts? i was able to start with 2 but now even placing one in the middle of nowhere shows the blueprint only give 1 space

you need to upgrade the hitching post to a stable

oh. i guess i experienced a glitch then. because i saw 2/2 at one point before doing so. is it cheaper to use a livestock trade post than order an oxen from the hitching post

The ox plows a field much faster by far than the workers. Ox are heavy haul assists, meaning they haul heavy loads, specifically logs. They're the ones hauling all the logs, from when the trees are cut, to where they're dragged to the logging camp, to hauling logs to every construction site etc. They're not for hauling goods from one storage to a worksite, that's what hand carts are for.
