Import / Export prices are way off.
Why are Import / Export prices so crazy? for example if I export 1 unit of tools it gives me 6 gold if I want to import 1 unit of meat it cost me 12 gold twice as much as a tool that requires someone to mine iron ore , then a bloomer to make a bar , then someone forges it into a tool.

I think it’s for game balancing reasons as opposed to realism. I hope to see some heavy tweaks or system improvements there as well.
Its not really balanced well though, as an example I started in an area with a rich iron deposit but very low fertility. In a normal city builder I would at least be able to make goods to trade for food so I could make use of the area I am now not really able to do that as Im running out of food which I should be able to trade for since its hard to produce. Another odd thing is I have two feltchers and bows sell for a ton I had to set up a trade route but get 500 gold a month from that lol. bows take like 4 planks.
I think this needs to be looked at

It’s because of tariffs. There is a development point upgrade that negates the overcharge.
I was hoping to be able to import hops and then export beer for a profit... nope.
Its even worse than that not only can you not make a profit but a Mining town with a deep infinite mine cant import food to feed its people its silly.

I definitely hope it’s improved. I wanted to make a strong trading economy for my first play-through. One person mentioned a perk that reduces the import penalty but I haven’t played long enough to check that out.
It's crazy messed up. You can't even profit from importing wheat, turning it into bread and then exporting bread. Because it costs 12 to import wheat, and you can only export bread for 4. Not to mention the cost of trade routes, which doubles the cost of all other trades routes each time you buy one for seemingly no reason? This system is wildly unfit for purpose. The game even tells you "If the land's unfit for farming, set up a trade route early".

You need to spend two development points in the trade section (right side). One removes the 10 coin tariff and another reduces all new trade routes to a max of 25 coin. Without this you will have expensive trades.
Both for balance and realism - every single town is making what you're making so why should you get piles of money for it? Less qq more pew pew.

I did that and it made things almost to easy, but really there should be some middle ground its currently absurd.
Lol now the prices on anything you buy once or twice go up lol.
I believe prices arent always the same from game to game, so its a reflection of the local economy. If meat is expensive but tools are not, its because meat is rare near you.
Just business : vendor buy some product and resell it, so he must makes money too.
Looks like stuff also change the price ratio buy/sell from product type : stone is hard to transport, so sell price is 10x the buy price ...
IMHO 😁
