Harvesting a field, until which month????
I see harvesting part of Autumn (sept-nov)... as it's my first year, I could only seed very late... like too late... wanted to wait Nov to force harvesting... oh what a surprise that I lost all the crops because they prepared the field for 2nd year but.. already beginning October.
The info is REALLY unclear.
I'm also an idiot, but it's unclear, still.

i think the game says before winter
(i didnt pay attention, but i guess most ppl will miss the harvest in first year if u build field way too big)

winter is december....
I built the size the "tutorial" tooltip said, size was ok, it's just I discover the game, and from the month the game starts and the time I find my marks and decide to make a field, it's way too late in the season already... needs extra guidance for newbies I think, Or start the game earlier in the season

well you learned it by doing wrong, what's the problem with that?

It's one word: frustration :)
The best is to learn by doing it right, because there was a good teaching. That's a big fail in this game, but as it's AA, I don't mind for now.. especially because the game overall looks like a quality product, something rarely seen these years.

I don't start farms till after a few years and I got my population up. If you have enough people it should be around November at the latest you plant a new crop. Before the snow falls. If you plant it early in the year after the snow melts (February/March) you'll only get about half of what you wanted to grow if you pull it in September.
I did try to the farm right away method during beta and didn't get very much the first year of growing anything and if i remember right, almost died cause i wasn't doing anything else for food right away.

Yeah exact same just happened to me.

ok i just tested,
it seems u have to harvest at Sept
oct will rotate out, and start plowing and sowing for next year

sad thing is, all the familes seem to do nothing but wait in between. I mean wtf do they do when you have the 1 field fallow and you only have 1 field atm?
redhongkong Apr 26, 2024 @ 6:42pm
i think for first year farming, u wait till oct and then throw in 1 or 2 farming family.
u make total of 9 fields at size of 0.5 morgen
(plant each vegetation on 0.5m field and fallow for 2 years, rotate them so u get to plant 3fields each year)
1family should be able to do 0.5 morgen each month

dec when snow drops, they stop working, u can remove them til next spring, and throw them back into work

not 100% sure (im still testing atm)

You're not going to be farming in your first year. Focus on foraging, hunting and housing extensions to get you through until you can set up a farm in your second year to maximise its yield

Maybe get 2-3 fields ? And rotate their fallows

Don't have them employed once the crops are sown. Send them to construction or another job.

From my experience for 2 years now, I had like 3-4 fields FULL, when September hit, they all ran out to harvest with 10 families, then all of a sudden the second it hits October ALL of the fields just die and the thousands of grain i had just dissapear.
redhongkong Apr 26, 2024 @ 9:05pm
the "sept only", harvest mechanic is really bad atm. u cant harvest at aug if u plant them early. they all push into sept even if u planted them oct last year.

for maximum efficiency u have to focus on 2 months march and september

throw in 8 family at Mar and recall them when they are done with plowing and sowing, throw in 8 family at sept to harvest and recall them again.

its bit too much micro management

Yeah this is the main problem, its instant.
