Any way to stop AI lords from claiming so early into the game?
AI lord has already taken all but one region of the map, while i only just starting mining iron, and i cant dispute his claim without fighting him, and i cant claim my own land without a currency that i dont have.

Same problem...

he will eventually just claim your land which means gameover if it goes through. If you try to refute the claims the AI will spawn like 150 troops at your border with no chance of defending against. Your best chance at this point is offering the AI money to back down even when the AI is winning the battle they accept if you offer enough.

This, if you dont have the troops, then have the gold. Bribe him and he will make peace with you, for the moment.
Next time, be ready.

Yeah, I got a claim against me and I could either accept the game over or dispute (ie accept a fight). I thought this only happened if you engaged the AI in some way.

So now I accepted the fight, his army spawned where I can't go anyway, with nearly 90 troops and I have 20, and a timer is counting down to... I guess auto game over?

Edit: I was wrong. I could go there and when I did there were some 350 troops. So much better :LaughingOwlcat:

This aspect of the game seems seriously unbalanced at the moment. It's probably best to play with the AI opponent turned off, because they can claim the entire map in the time it takes the player to claim one province and since they start with a strong army, there's nothing you can do to stop them.

Same happened to me, he took the entire map and then eventually went for me, spawn a 200 man army at my border so my tooled up manor was pointless. Had a massive fight, cheesed a win, but because the fight took so long, my villagers all abandoned me due to the amount of unburied bodies everywhere... was fun up until that though!
Yeah I'm having the same issue. The AI has taken all the regions and I can't progress.
I agree with you guys. It is quite challenging. The scenario with the AI Lord is by default but I think I should have started with the 1st scenario - it is already difficult enough to sort out what you have to do to develop your village wihtout having to worry for some bandits and enemy Lord. I may restart now that I realized that having the tanner is enough to produce clothes XD. Great game anyway, I like when it is challenging.
The AI is absolutely overpowered currently. In my first campaign it claimed all the map during first 1.5 year and claimed my region later in November of the 2nd year. There is no way to stop this. First two years are just too slow for the player to get either enough army or enough gold to be able to defend.

I am currently at the 2nd campaign and AI was a little slower initially, but after he claimed 3rd region, he started claiming another one every couple month. It's summer of the 2nd year and I already have no good regions to expand. At least this time he won't be able to claim mine region, as I lowered the AI aggressiveness.
The AI also claimed the regions around me very early on, which pushes me to start a game again.

I was thinking of the following strategy:
quickly raided bandit camps in order to gain influence and gold. Gold would allow you to oppose the claim of neutral territories on the map by hiring mercenaries.

Do you think this could work or is the AI really indisputable even when hiring mercenaries?

Having the same "issue" that the AI claims every region from the beginning. It feels like they have endless ressources to claim them.
But I was able to defend my region when it tried to claim it. It was a bloodbath but I was able to defend it. You have to invest heavily in spears, bows and big shields. They are the best for defending (allthough archers got nerfed really hard but that might get reversed).

What year of the game was it? I barely had full retinue and one stack of archers when they come for me and the only mercenaries on marker were 2 more stacks of archers, so I had no chance. There were 2 or 3 stacks of melee infantry plus enemy retinue with 36 men plus stack of brigands and stack of archers.

This mode is not for newbies. Ive also lost my 1st game to ai but the second one is going much smoother. Mercenaries together with all the militia you can get are doing the job

I think it was the third or fourth year. I livestreamed it and the fight was 5 hours into gameplay. Dont know how much time that is ingame. But that fight literally broke that save because I had half of my men dead and therefore the wealth in my town went from 3k very fast down to 0 which is the death sentence for my town.

This is what I did in the first game I played but the apposing Lord got to nearly all the Bandit camps and wiped them out before i could, even with game set to max bandit camps. He just wondered the map killing them all and then taking the the lands.

I am going to start a new game today and probably change some settings
