The message is kind of vague on the two options.
"They could be send to your people who surely need them, though, it is your right to keep it."

1) Send resources to nearest town.
2) This belongs to my treasure now

So, is option 1 sending the loot to some OTHER town than my own? Or my town?
Doesn't make complete sense to me....

I wouldn't think it means sending the goods to another town, still I wonder too what the two options do exactly.

It sends the rescources to your OWN nearest town.
1) Your own town is also money for regional wealth
2) Yourself is also money for treasure

If you choose the neares region, the spoils will go to the nearest claimed region.

If you have multiple regions claimed, the closest one of the bandit camp will be chosen for you.

If your town is far away from the camp and you have multiple regions claimed that are between the camp and your town, the money won't go to your town.

It happened to me. I had a claimed region with a lot of regional wealth but i didnt built anything at it yet, it had the wealth from the bandit camps

It may be a bug but I seem to get double the amount to my towns then I would take directly so it seems more efficient to send it to the towns and then tax it into your coffers then put it into coffers directly.
