How are the battles?
Not big on city building but I'm a fan of total war, are the battles on large scale or small scale? I would assume small scale, but just want to know if you guys enjoy the battles?

you are in the WAY wrong game for you bud. This game is 99.9% city builder, 0.1% battles, and NOTHING like total war. A HUGE battle in this game is a couple hundred people on each side. Early on your forces will only comprise a few dozen men at most.

Bunch of guys charge at each other. The side with the most troops win

That's it

Those early promotional video showcasing the 'in depth' battle system was a lie

I suggest you to not buy the game if you aren't into city building. Battle are present but, at least for now, are at very small scale (the biggest battle I saw on YT was with 900-1000 men total).

You're a lord of a manor dude.

It's like the size of an American suburb. Definitely looking at the wrong type of game lol.

The promotional videos of the game promised an in depth battle system

So the developer is a lied?

Half the promotional content was literally battles

Not sure what is confusing here.

There's an in depth battle system, but you're a lord of a manor, not the king of England.

How big do you think the battle sizes are, and do you think battles are the primary focus? This should seem self explanatory.

I would argue the battles are really what got people hyped for this when the original video came out 4 years ago

What do you mean?
I swear some people really want to get out on some.

The dev clearly stated several times that this is small scaled skirmishes and rarely so too.
Its a city builder with occasional combat encounters of small scale.
Thats what the dev said and thats what the game offers.
Thats also what the previous video footage showed.
I have not seen any footage with more than a few hundred people swinging some peasant tools at each other and thats exactly what you get.

Your "in depth battle system" has nothing to do with the scale.

Think first, then post.

I bought it because it's a city builder and I enjoyed the demo, which IIRC had ZERO combat in it

Even though he said there will be cavalry and siege equipment? Doesn't sound that small scale to me

I read comments like this and I'm further reminded how dumb some people really are

Congrats, 90 percent of the hype was for the total war battles. Hence all total war players mocking CA about how 1 guy could make a better game then them. Go look at the total war reddits, steam discussions if you dont believe me.

Siege equipment is literally ladders.
And how is cavalry related to large scale battles?
Many skirmishes consisted of only a dozen cavalry soldiers to flank or disturb.

Nothing here is actually confusing.
Its small scale, its an in depth battle system it was all exactly shown and advertised with just that.
