yeah I did that and this worked, but thats kind of weird they won't seek the better homes if they're meant to just wait for them to be build.
not true. I upgraded them to huts and could destroy them without issues.
1) available homes
2) satisfy more needs and wants
The thing that got me my first couple families, up to 9 now, was a marketplace and church. They seemed to appreciate that, and having plenty of food from foraging.

You should also have berries and meat, as well as enough firewood in stock
