If horses are important for you NOW, wait.
Development is complex. Other parts of the game have been more important. Who knows, perhaps horses are part of the game in a few months or within the end of the year.
I admit I haven't looked for a roadmap, if there even is any, but I'm pretty sure horses is high on the "to do" list.
The dev has openly stated there is no roadmap currently :) The reason is for him to listen to the community and work on patches and polishes for the first month. Then look at creation of a roadmap. Both Slav and Hooded Horse are saying all the right things at the right time.
Most combatants had to travel on foot.
Most commonly horses were only used as a means of travel to the battle, where it was dismounted.
And for your info first mounted soldier was towed behind a donkey. In a cart. Thousands of years before people used horses or elephants.
In medieval times, most peasants didn’t have horses to help them fight bandits. Horses were very expensive, and usually only rich people like knights could afford them. So, if peasants had to protect their land, they would fight on their feet using simple tools like sticks or farm tools because they couldn't afford to have horses.
You may think you have a point, but you don't... Unironicly mounted warfare was very rare and only reserved for the largest of battles between the richest of the rich. A single warhorse is worth as much as a warband of few dozen men. Since were playing on a much smaller scale, village/town instead of citystates or kingdoms it makes sense to not really see horses that much
Cavalry is a good shock force but free peasants are way cheaper.
horse not only cost money, but also means another mouth to feed (dont expect them to survive from eating grass alone, u r not steppe horde)
