I just planted 5 barley fields, so I'm hoping for 125 - 150 barley. We'll see how long it lasts.
I've already got the required level 3 burgages to 'win' the scenario. This is just for grins now.
Question for all -- Is it 1 barley yields 1 malt yields 1 ale?
It frustrates me to have to game it, but needs must.
The Developer did change the amount of Ale consumed by households.
- Think it's now at 1 Ale per month, (it's in the patch notes)
Thanks. I did find the notes for 0.7.972 --
So -- (Months/3) * (# of families) = Ale consumption.
12/3 * 64 families = 4 * 64 families = 256 ales per year, assuming no population growth.
And my 5 barley fields are projected to produce about 150 units if barley.
Drat.
So I restructured and added some fields and a farm.
I now will have 9 fields each of wheat, barley and fallow next year.
If the drunken bastards drink all that up, they can go without. Let 'em make prison wine out of those berries.
Historically, the amount of ale drunk was also part of the workers calorie intake.
- And a great source it was, as it could be had at anytime of the work day.
- Similar to an energy drink now.
One thing i do sometimes (especially in low fertility regions) is keep the tavern empty and produce what ale i can. When its time to upgrade, open the tavern, let the burgages get what they need, then hit upgrade, then close the tavern.
Still, i've had a massive city with a fertile region and kept the ale flowing no problem. I had so much excess that i could have exported it as well.
Doubt that's possible in a low fertility region, but at least can make enough to keep the plots happy enough in general. Main thing is, when starting a region with low fertility, first thing to do is look where the best land for barley is and avoid building there. One trick is to place fields down right at the start to block yourself from using that land for other purposes.
0.35 Per Family per month.
From patch notes:
Ale Consumption: Reduced ale consumption by 75% (approximately 1/3 per family per month).
Reading is good.
