Taverns barely work??
So, what's up with taverns? Tell me if it's just my problem or if they actually need to be fixed. I have 100 ale stored in a storehouse near the tavern with six families working in it, and three families working at the tavern. And so little ale actually gets at the tavern! Sometimes it works for like 5 seconds, enough to make me build a couple of tier 3 houses, and then it stops working again. Am I doing something wrong or are taverns simply broken for now? Do i need to buy more ale? I tried to buy 200 ale once, but the problem was the same.

Release or Beta Test?

Release its a known problem that these folks drink WAY TO MUCH DAMN ALCOHOL.
It's adjusted in the test branch, and it FEELS right I'll say, so when the patch finally drops...well, your problem will be solved!

Yea, I know, not much help, hah.

If Release? TAKE AWAY STORAGE FOR ALE. Any place that stores it, remove the option to store it. Part of the problem (beyond guzzling the crap like water) is that granary workers like to yoink it back in their granary.
Your best bet is a streamlined set of buildings. So, trader/fields/storehouse with barely, then right down the road the malthouse, then right down the brewer, then right down the road the tavern. With the tavern workers living near all of that jazz.

And, here is the bit to make things work smooth as butter? TURN OFF STORAGE FOR EVERYTHING INVOLVED.
Don't move things extra steps with (probably) over worked storehouse/granary workers.
Let the production buildings, since they are near each other (just like real life at this time!) get their own crap. It speeds up things, massively.

Now, an exception! If your fields are far away? Build a storehouse, granary, whatever it is that takes BARLEY near your little brewing area. Don't enlarge it. Dont even bother with more then a family or two. Their job is to help expedite the movement of the barley. That is all. Their one job.

I ended up building two taverns, with 3 families each, two breweries with double family expansion, and a few granaries. That seemed to solve the issue. EDIT/ In the BETA

You have a chokepoint somewhere then causing a backup, most likely. What is the family count of your village?

Edit here: Try what I told broski to do, that should actually smooth things out. Storage is trap, you almost all the time NEVER need it for anything.

Yes, I most definitely have a bottleneck somewhere, but I couldn't exactly pin point the issue (or have the drunk ambition find it), so I went nuclear on it. Started importing loads of malt and barley too. It solved the issue, I have so much ALE now it's not funny. My whole town is plastered.

I wholeheartedly endorse that path.

It's the release version. Thanks for the answer, now at least I know it's not my mistake. This game is awesome, but it really needs lots of fixing AND lots of quality of life (kinda hate micromanaging).

Just straight up import ale then, that's what I do most of the times. If you choose the trader perks, and manage to set up a decent economy (importing raw materials and exporting high value products) you get rich quick and you can import literally everything you need. Unless of course you simply want to purposely make a self-sufficient town without importing too much stuff.

it isn't just you. The mechanics are there. They work fine too. Even with the oddball crap (looking at you goofy market hijinks and farming), they still work amazingly well.

Big part of the problem is duder went about things DIFFERENTLY then 'the norm'. And its causing so much problems for people. Add in the fact that the workers have limits on what they can do (which is a very nice realistic part), and... heads. Against walls.

It's honestly just about watching what is going on. That is my best tip to you. Don't try to force things, since with the mechanics in place, you don't have to TRY so hard. People are trying waaaay to hard, hah.

Disable ale storage at the granary. Eventually you'll fill the tavern with 100 and then enable it on the granary again. Rinse and repeat. Once you get some barley going you end up with more ale than you know what to do with and start exporting it.
