King's Taxes - a few questions
On easier maps never really had a problem making enough coins to pay the King's Taxes

However, am on the hard challenge achievement and I have a 350 bill each year, but when i tax my peeps at 9% am only getting like 12 coins per month. How am I supposed to pay the taxes if a 9% tax rate only covers half the bill?

Other than not being able to get mercs and setting up a second region, what harm is it if we have a negative coin amount?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wish i had only to pay 350, i‘m currently paying nearly 5k XD
Try to maximize your regional wealth by selling everything you don‘t need (hides, leather, maybe food etc.) this will increase your „coins“ in order to be able to pay the king‘s tax.

Oh okay. Thanks. Understand now. I thought the treasury tax was a tax per home and it taxed the peep directly. I see now that the taxes come out of the region wealth. I only have at the moment about 100 coins in regional wealth and is why I am only getting 10 coins in treasury at a 9/10% tax.

Yah in my earlier games the taxes got to like 6,000 and change. My regional wealth was between 3500 and 5500 at the time.

Thanks.

The tax you set is a % of the total regional wealth at the end of the month.
So, if you have 1k regional wealth and a 10% tax, you get 100.

The trick to getting rich is not with high taxes, that will just lower your regional wealth, making you earn less next month. To get rich, you must make your region rich. Do this with trade exports. Even simply exporting excess berries will get you rich.

Berries spawn faster if you harvest them faster. You have to clear out a bush before a new one will spawn. Do this by having multiple forager huts with 1 family each. There is severe diminishing returns on having multiple families working the same building, so spread them out. This also gives you more storage space for berries. You can easily harvest 400 a month and then sell 300 of them. That will net you 1200 a year just from berries.

I tend to set up 4 foragers with 1 family each. Then I set my tax to only 5%. When you get your regional wealth up to 10k, even only a 5% tax will get you 500 a month.

Hi,

I've also a question about the kings tax: in my game it has been raised twice until now. Is there a limit or will it be raised every year or something like that, going endlessly?

Regards

Actually,i`s one coin per head and year, taken from your treasury, which you refill by taxes on regional wealth or wiping bandit camps

I'm in debt to the King at the moment and all that seems to happen isthat you lose Royal Approval. I'm on -2 Royal Approval and nothing happens so what. The other thing to watch out for is that the King empties your treasury just before you need to pay your mercenaries.

So, all your mercenaries walk out. But ten seconds later your tax collectors deliver their collection so you just have to hire them all again.

Royal Tax Calculation: Royal tax is now calculated as follows: No tax for the first 5 years, 1 Treasury per citizen after 5 years, 2 Treasury per citizen after 10 years, 3 Treasury per citizen after 15 years.

Currently, players can incur debt without consequence. In the future, failure to pay will result in losing the king's favor and eventually facing the king's army as enemies.

The negatives are things you otherwise would buy with Treasury-Retinue, Mercs, Upgrades, etc.

So long as that isn't a concern, you haven't much to worry

Actually it was buying armour for my Retinue that got me into trouble in the first place.

I'm not sure if it was a glitch or not but before the patch I used to pay 34 silver for the Retinue Armour upgrade so I was happily upgrading the armour of my latest Retinue without really paying much attention and suddenly ran of Treasury income despite having over 9,000 silver in the coffers before I started. When I checked the cost of the next armour upgrade the game was quoting me over 900 silver per purchase.

I'm being really careful now, but it's gone back to quoting me 34 silver again. It just wiped out my treasury and left me unable to pay the King.
