Vegetable plots are really sucking.
Had like 7 big burgage plots set to be vegetable gardens. Laid them out to be about the size I usually do, decently large because veggies are one of the crops that actually are affected by size. This go around barely had any vegetables coming in. I'm assuming it was because they were either too big or the fact that they were on a slope, but almost all were never fully sewn at any given time. Anyone else having issues this patch with veggie plots not yielding produce?

The yield does seem to be reduced from previous build. I haven't been able to build a decent surplus this time around.

Patch notes said 30% slower growth. Which would mean 23% less yield for the same plot size, I think. But also 23% less work harvesting and re-sowing because of the longer growth period. Initial sowing shouldn't be any slower, and I haven't noticed a difference. If anything, because of the longer time until the first harvest, citizens should have more time to sow the entire garden (assuming it's the same size).

Vegetables were quite overpowered before. I dont think the dev ever intended them to function as full size farms.

that's mostly what I've noticed. Longer to get up to full harvest potential plus less annually.

they still work fine for a stable food over time, imo (so far) but yeah, getting much *surplus* is a lot tougher, if you want that. You'd have to make more plots, take up more land, more often, over time, vs. population growth and just needing a few per town or whatever - eg, a lot of surplus isn't probably an efficient thing to do.

That said, I like it - I personally at least was tired of 1000's of surplus and making gardens smaller and smaller to avoid it. lol.

All I had to do was build one more large vegetable garden than I used to for a 100 family region (5 instead of 4) and I have almost the same output as before. I build mine with the housing extension and get them to tier 3 so I have 4 families to manage them. This results in less time harvest/planting and more time growing.

It's worth noting that food is not eaten in a specific order now. It's random. This results in veggies being eaten more and berries and meat eaten less. That could account for some people's reduced surplus.
