no other weapon is as versatile and no other weapon can kill literally every enemy in game in less than 3 hits from any angle without any significant perk investment
it's simply the best melee weapon in game, people keep crying about nerfs
Not to mention, repetetive playstyle.
Power Sword is great. I mean, I use it in almost all my builds to cover horde clear and Carapace dmg while staggering enemies at the same time. But other weapons are fine too. For example, the Standard Issue Shovel greatly improves mobility, something the sluggish Power Sword lacks.
Low on dodges doesn't matter since if you're using a Power Sword rarely will anything actually close in on you, slow mobility has never ever been a problem in Darktide unless you need to do a running competition with a knife zealot, charge up takes but a fraction of a second and the amount of enemies that it clears with each attack and punishment it dishes out is well worth it.
No argument there.
Yeah other weapons are fine too but the way people speak of Power Swords on socials is as though the weapon is basically useless. The shovel is fantastic but requires carapace investment in your ranged options or at the very least kraks.
Outside of XV on Zealot I've been unable to get one handed chainswords to perform at a level the power cycler ps does, and even then XV doesnt have the power output ps does
I also played with the chainsword and it can do none of that (except oneshotting a mutie with a heavy-chainsword attack), nor that easily, and for elites/bosses you get your camera yoinked which even if you cancel the animation you have no idea where you are for a few seconds as the game yoinks it to god-knows-where at times (I've done my fair share of 180° twists or even 360° because it locked onto some random enemy I didnt even aimed for or at times saw because it ran into the hit mid-swing)
Unless you maybe mean the big chainsword (which I havent really used much and dont really like so cant speak on it), but the chainsword Veteran has access to?
Absolutely not true that its better in 90% of melee, maybe compared to the Mark III, but not compared to the Mark VI
Power Swords are one of the best offensive weapons. But despite their incredible strength and cleave, they have atrociously bad mobility and always come with that overhead requirement of needing to be powered up every 3 swings.
Force Swords are fantastic and can block bullets and knock down anything but a mutie from 9m away. Illisi special is stronger than a PS's for that 1 swing while clearing basic mixed hordes without the special at all, and Deimos's precision dmg is on a class of its own while its 2:nd heavy (which can be comboed into from pushes & push-attacks) will knock down or stagger *everything*. Chain weapons likewise are fast & strong, the special doing crazy dmg or instantly capping bleed etc. Knives are arguably one of the best headshot and *the* best crit & bleed weapons in the game, with 2x better sprint efficiency and far better mobility & attack / sprint speed than anything else. And none of those have the downsides of PS's.
I don't even remember the last time I used a PS. They're in a good place, strong as heck and worthy of their name. But that power comes at an obvious cost.
Charging takes no time at all in comparison to the punishment you can dish out.
Again, speaking of mobility but two of the three lock you down into a single target move that makes you static. This doesn't work well in most Auric horde specialist/heavy scenario. Illisi's special might be stronger but the moveset is crap.
Yet they lock you onto a single target. Chainaxe and Psyker's dueling swords are straight up better in single target damage, dueling sword is a close second to PS imo, Chainaxe is too unwieldy even with a build that aims to fill in for it's shortcomings.
No knife is going to clear enemies as fast as PS will despite the bleeding it causes. It's better to get rid of things instantly than eventually.
powersword still suffers from the perpetual flaw that it always has had.
it is the quintessential 'green circles' sword that lets you mow down enemies by the dozen as long as your squad was already winning that fight
it is fantastic when circumstances are under control, and a fantastic way to get yourself killed when something unexpected happens.
in reality it is more like the S-tier 'janitor' sword
it cleans trash out of a room faster than any other weapon, but it cannot handle any situation that involves complex decision making
why would you need a ranged weapon or krak grenades to kill carapace armored enemies if you are using a melee weapon that can roll uncanny strike
