but the bolter and plasma gun are great too
Helbore mk2 is a good pick for an all-rounder range weapon, although it takes some getting used to. I tend to avoid the helbores though.
They're both BiS for different reasons.
Headtaker + BM = Reliable up time but less DPS
Decimator + BM = Less Reliable up time but More DPS
So whether you want DPS or just uptime, the choices are self explanatory. If you keep thinking Decimator is trash because of its less reliable uptime, I might as well stupidly say that Headtaker is trash because it has less DPS than Decimator.
It definitely encourages a more aggressive Vet playstyle as you do need to worry about damage falloff but the high fire rate and fairly generous mag can allow you to clear out rooms of shooters frighteningly quick so long as you're hitting your headshots. I've face tanked Reapers outside of ult numerous times just by constantly popping them in the head as I move forward.
Granted it does need either a full auto mod or script to be remotely viable unless you want carpal tunnel in your finger.
I use it without PC in damnation and it works fine for trash hordes. With good power blessings I only need to energise the first hit. For anything else a helbore shot through the cranium does the job.
What are your favorite weapons?
I'm not an authority on this stuff just some random but here's my thoughts...
People are going to recommend their loadouts to you based on their play styles and/or breakpoints, etc. It's all meant with good intentions and great advice but everyone plays differently and this is the key factor in making a class work for you.
Try it all out and see what meshes well. It's easy to do on the vet since it's so easy to keep that ult going.
Personally, I like a fast and aggressive play style but I always balance my talents and weapons to handle whatever situation can happen. I play this way on all my characters.
Example 1:
Shredder Autopistol + Brutal Momentum Antax V+ regen bleed grenades
Kill an entire room of shooters solo while zipping and sliding about? Check. 5 Bulwarks and some Maulers just ambushed us in a hallway? Grenades out and heavy axe swings to the maulers. Ez. Might be lacking on snipers but I can easily get out of the way and come up with a plan. This same build can easily work by swapping out the autopistol for infantry/braced autogun, vraks mk iii, laspistol.
Example 2:
Agripinaa slug shottie + Brutal Momentum Antax V (or power sword) + reload speed on elite kill + regen grenades
Snipe elites and specials even while in the middle of horde melee combat, insta-knockdown crushers, reapers, maulers, etc. You need to be on top of keeping rounds loaded. Arguably better on Zealot but works well for Vet, too. Full Bore and No Respite go hard.
Okay, so those are probably terrible recommendations for a play that prefers lots of distance between player and enemy.
That said, I've played all kinds of loadouts.
Want to stay at range?
Vraks Mk III is amazing when built just right. MGXII isn't the only good lasgun. Check out Ryken XIV on youtube for his reviews on the helbore and kantrael. He goes over every mark and there's some surprising stuff there. I love the Helbore mk 1 and starting to dig the MG 1A lasgun.
Final bit from me, and I know many will really disagree here... I find myself using the Bolter and Plasma less and less. I love them and they're iconic 40k, Fatshark made them feel amazing to use... but they're kinda like the ranged version of the Thunder Hammer. They hit super hard on the tanky enemies but you lose a lot of killing speed compared to many other weapons.
I bring them when there's another vet in the team who's using a weapon to handle general shooters and I focus on elite killing with them.
and tell me, your are a Malice pro without telling me, your are a Malice pro (on a vet):
Shotguns are good.
Plasma is good.
Shredder is good.
Braceguns are good.
Tip: Nope, your team is good ,for carrying your sorry arse.
I think the only weapon similar to bull cleaver is the zealot heavy sword and even that feels weaker. Vet power sword can certainly clear a lot but needs that special activation. I'm sure you've read about power cycler + slaughterer but another option that works almost as well without being dependent on the special is slaughterer + rampage. With the Mk III, you can initiate with the special and then just H1, H2, repeat. Most times you can push and activate as well but sometimes it's smarter not to.
I use an Antax on vet like 90% of the time. It has a lot less cleave but it's a safe and strong weapon that easily handles all enemies (can stun a crusher out of it's overhead with H1 and special stuns attacking ragers out of their combos). Light attack combos are all you need on most enemies.
The agripinaa mk VIII braced autogun is basically the vet's version of the gorgo AND you never have to brace it. It's all run-n-gun and glorious.
For quick popping specials, I'd say the kantrael mg XII lasgun or agripinaa slug shottie/kantrael fire shottie. The slug shottie has the benefit of being more of a quick sniper and stagger monster. Both shotguns benefit from Full Bore and No Respite is a great addition.
Even plasma has a place in higher up modes. You still need to operate as a team to win. Plasma sharpies are best supported with a team that already wave clears trash easily with guns while he's clapping the heavier groups and meat with his.
I dont know who hurt you or what made you believe these things but you're wrong and a very silly man.
Blue Finish = Fastest charging, weakest damage
Green Finish = Mid charging and damage
Brown Finish = Slow charging, heaviest damage
I'd recommend Green or Brown, both can One-hit pewpew most enemies. But the brown can also one-shot Crushers on a critical headshot with certain Blessings / Perks on the gun.
XII las had the best ammo efficiency, u can shot everything for the whole mission without worry about ammo
Plasma and Bolt gun do amazing job on Damnation. Penetrate carapace armor big boy and Shield. They OP enough to carry the team.
