But first and foremost I want to be able to close a door without having to completely open it first
Love this idea. You could hold F, open the door slowly whilst walking into the room.
So holding F would make the hand go on the doorknob and then you could slowly walk forwards and backwards opening and closing the door.
This would alow for you to fluidly open and door and swing into the room while ads rather than just pushing the door and it swinging open
Let's just focus on being able to close a door first okay?
