Shotgun spread and shooting speed.
Could the shotguns spread be fixed to more realistic?
The common problem in almost all games is that shotguns are made like sawed shotgun with 1" barrels.

So example 30-40 yards (27-36 meters) the shotgun is still very effective to hit a torso size target and requires good aiming. But at those ranges you are not anymore hitting a individual limb or make a headshots as it is more of a luck to impact a specific part of body and it is more of just getting hit on target. At 50 yards (45 meters) the common 00 shot is such that you will hit a running man or one standing, but you don't go shooting one that is peeking behind a reinforced wall.

That is why we should get change in the game to have the slugs for increased range and accuracy. So hitting a torso at 100 yards (92 meters) would become possible shot.
And of course the different shotguns, barrel attachments and so on.

The idea of the shotgun being just for close range like room clearing or stairways is not properly presented when the shotgun pellets spread like a 100 cm wide from a 16" barrel or something like that. The shotguns should be limited in close ranges for increased accuracy as they are almost like a rifle, you aim off the target and you will likely shoot off the target. So at close ranges like room clearing you need to be as accurate as with rifles.

A ARMA III offers interesting comparison for so many games as it gets many things better.

And one annoying thing is as well that shotguns are so often made to be lowered and handled like massive recoil guns that can't be pumped quickly on the target.

Yes it is little unfair to link to Miculek because he is word record holder in various guns, but he isn't the only one or it isn't even rare thing.

Where the real difference should come is the capability. As with 00 buckshots they are commonly said to be like each one is hitting like a .38 bullet. But their effectiveness decrease quickly at longer ranges.
And then is always the shotguns main problem, they are long weapons. It is bad in tight places where the SMG and handguns are meant to be effective. So one doesn't want to be waving a shotgun in tight spaces (same is with assault rifles).

I think too that shotguns should have a 1:1 realistic spread.

However I was able to take out a hostile from a cross probably 20 meters in coop with a center mass shot. So I think the damage and spread at that distance is already really effective.

Still agreeing however that the game should be uncompromising on spread.

It is challenging to get the distance idea in the game, but shotguns for combat purposes ain't made to be a bird shots where you need that spread even at fairly short distances (and modified with the chokes to get it) so 20 meters is very short range for it.

This of course could be very good addition to shotguns that players can decide that what choke they are utilizing.
- True Cylinder
- Quarter
- Half
- Three-Quarters
- Full
- Super Full
- Duckbill

This is for a birdshots spread, that is larger than a 00 buckshots has:

It would make shotguns more difficult to use as well because you need to consider the scenario where you want to take that gun, and you are not going to modify that gun once in the field. So you must consider do you take a choke that gives widest possible spread at short distance but worse at medium ranges and terrible at longer.
Or take a one great for long ranges but lose the shotgun spread at close ranges.

Then combine it with the selection of the ammunition. The few should be in the game:
- 00 Buckshot
- 000 Buckshot
- No:4
- Slug
- Rubber Slug

So as can be seen, rubber slug still would have potential to be lethal at closer ranges but possibility to keep the target alive for what ever purpose is required, instead just killing right on the spot.

This kind features would make shotguns separated from the common weapon of choices, and make them likely less wanted to be used - but that is the reason why they are special weapons anyways in the reality, and mostly used just for hunting in special situations.
So shotguns are not meant to be a assault rifle or sub-machine gun replacements or competitors even, but neither a "bad aimer" guns.
