so.. my outfit doesn't change while playing with my friends coop

Yes, your friend has to dress you up like a doll in his offline game before inviting you.
You will also refer to him as "Master" and limit your role to casting support magics and giving him encouraging cheers.

Yeah, that's one of the biggest downsides of the game.

Completely pointless decision if you ask me, but they probably didn't wanted to make models fit all the companions, given how they already have selection limited to their native job outfits.

Best solution is to tell friend to dress companion accordingly to your needs, otherwise just host in turns.
