Urgent Multiplayer Problem

Hi, so for a bit of background a close friend of mine is coming to visit tomorrow and when we were younger we used to play loads of SvM together. I wanted to surprise him by sitting up a LAN match using mine and my wife's computer. I installed the game onto my wife's PC who has never had it before and it boots up MP fine for us to play LAN, however for some reason when I boot it up on my PC it gets stuck on the loading screen and stays there forever. I have tried patching it, reinstalling it, putting it on a different drive, nothing seems to work.

As a last resort I'm asking if anyone else can help, it would mean a lot and I'm hoping my friend would appreciate the surprise!

Press CTRL + ALT + DEL when on the loading screen. When the windows lockscreen comes up just close it by hitting ESC. The map should load instantly.

It's also described in this guide among other fixes. Might come in handy. GL
