Curious about playing this game...
I'm semi-interested in this game due to the anthro characters, and may try the demo, but I'm just wondering, given the sacrifice system and inability to grind, if the New Game Plus is accessible when exhausting all playable characters with the sacrifice system, or if you can potentially get stuck and have to restart from scratch, which typically doesn't mesh well with me (please, no spoilers).

While I have not yet reached the end of the game (as there is a major bug in the current patch of the game preventing me from progressing), there are limitations on when you can use the sacrifice system, so I don't think you can actually sacrifice all your characters (unless the game is a lot longer than I think).

Also, if I understood the tutorial correctly, the game gives you a way to keep improving your team/gear if you happen to get stuck at some point.

As for NG+, I don't think you can access it until you've completed the game

Thanks. I'll definitely try the demo first.

Oh, you can 'absolutely' sacrifice all of the characters. Very slight spoiler, but the game also has a specific ending tied to sacrificing your second to last character against the final boss

Not that I would recommend doing that, mind you ... (╹◡╹ )

Yeah so, the NG+ system in this game only activates if you manage to make it to the end. A game over (even by sacrificing all of the characters) can put you back at the start of the previous checkpoint, or just after you left it (your choice). There's no grinding, and if you over-use the sacrifice mechanic, it can be really make a playthrough VERY difficult later on.

To be honest though, as long as you take on harder fights by taking more dangerous routes now and then, and build the relationships between the character during intermissions, and of course upgrade the tank, I don't think soft-locking or FUBAR'ing a save would be a problem.

I tried the demo and thought it was good, and whatever difficulty there was didn't seem "artificial", I pretty much tried making the most of intermissions, I didn't have to sacrifice anyone in the three chapters the demo covered, so I may very well purchase the full version.

Keep in mind that the game is really designed around not sacrificing anybody. The Soul Cannon exists so you can have the satisfaction of not using it. As far as I'm aware, it's impossible to get yourself stuck in a situation where you must use it to advance. It might be possible if you're just never upgrading your tank and roll into a boss fight with low HP & SP, but that's not going to happen if you're actually trying to win.

Actually, you can finish the game without sacrificing anyone. A few battle are tough, but its doable.
