Graphics options
I wish there were more options for resolution and framerate, especially in fullscreen. I can change the resolution in a config, but can't do anything about the framerate. And that's a bummer, because I want to play at native res and 60 fps to keep my GPU from getting toasty. I tried changing the refresh rate in my GPU control panel, but it doesn't stick. I get 60 fps at first, and always when zoomed out, but after I enter and exit a menu, my zoomed-in refresh rate hits the cap of 125.

I'd like the option to force a refresh rate. Galciv is turn-based, I don't need 144/125Hz, but I would like everything to still be pretty. My GPU is newish but not high end, and I like to make my equipment last by not pushing it to its absolute limit. The option to force resolution scaling and framerate through the game, especially in fullscreen, would be much appreciated.

It will last forever at 100% or 100% wouldn't be 100%. They're made for it. This whole idea of not running at 100% is a new generation of gamer thing... back in the day (80's, 90's 2000's) it was always running flat out.

If anything I'd be more worried about the power bill running it maxed out all the time. Even then it's not a big deal.

You can limit your framerate in NVidia control panel. I'm sure the other cards have similiar features. I would handle this here instead of in game anyways because some older games didn't have such limits.

Go to Manage 3D settings
Max Frame Rate and set it to your designed frame rate.

The marketing of framerates is on par with NFTs

I'm using an AMD GPU, and while I can force it from the AMD control panel, it only lasts until I enter and exit one of the menus. Shipyard, research, etc. Forcing it through Windows seems to work, but it would be nice to have an in-game option.

I'm not sure where you're going with this. I'm actually trying to lower the refresh rate because I consider 60 fps to be sufficient for a turn-based game, so I think we're in agreement?

Back then hardware doubled in power in a ridiculously short span of time, so you didn't worry about breaking it. And smaller modern circuitry is waaay more vulnerable to heat and electron migration than the old chonkers used to be. While older equipment cost more when adjusting for inflation, median wages were higher when adjusting for inflation, too. I would argue that hardware is less affordable nowadays, even if it's not more expensive (adjusted for yadda yadda.) People have good reason not drive it until the wheels fall off.

The issue here is more that there is too much overdraw on the nebulas.

We are working on fixing this for 2.2. If you have a lot of nebulas in the game, it can make your fans go crazy unfortunately.

I believe the settings in Nvidia control panel reset every update with a clean install. You will need to set your max frame rate globally or per game each update.

Nah not really.. Our 386DX in 1987 cost around $20,000 in 1987 dollars. That's with a whopping 4MB RAM a 40MB HDD and an NEC Multysync VGA monitor for the VGA card. For reference it was a lot more than the cost of the average new car. The 40 meg HDD was a few grand by itself - 1987 dollars.

You honestly can run modern hardware at 100% as well. It's why I've never upgraded until needed (still running a 1070 here and it's doing just fine thankyou very much - even though yeah it's at 100% on many games most of the time). CPU is an i5 7600K well and truly overclocked to 5Ghz since day one... no issues :)

I wish it would use the full resolution of my monitor, I have a 4k 3440x1440, but it seems to be limited to 2560x1440
