Can we import custom ship designs and races from GalCiv3 to GalCiv4?

just wanted to know if there is an option to import custom ship designs, templates and races from galciv3 to galciv4 since ive spent a lot of time creating my own ships and races.

I know we can do so for some of the old templates from GCIII but I've not tried it myself and I heard it causes issues because of missing parts between the two games.

It is not officially supported but you are welcome to try and see if your old ship designs work! We've also added new parts for you to experiment with in new ship designs and our custom civs have seen a massive improvement with the advent of AlienGPT

You can do it but the folder structure is different. The PNG file goes in the thumbnails folder. Also some of the GC3 parts are currently missing in GC4. I was able to import all of my GC3 ships into 4. As RealMutter said it's not officially supported.

All my GC3 ship designs are working in GC4, but I cannot edit them or upload them to the workshop since they all contain GC3-only parts.

You just copy the designs from the %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3Crusade\Designs to the %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\GalCiv4\Designs folder. Then move the PNG files to the Thumbnails folder. If you never bought Crusade then it's %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Designs.

If it doesn't work it's likely due to missing ship parts which you'll need to move as well. Otherwise, it's not an officially supported process so might need to play with it.

From my personal experience it's not worth the aggravation. I tried to import my GC3 ship designs and nothing would show up in either ship designer in both in game and stand alone from main menu. Still didn't and wouldn't work in spite of the missing ship parts star control origins having been added.

My advice is just remake all GC3 ship designs from scratch in GC4. This is what I've been doing and having a great time with it. It's getting better and better with every design using the ship designer.

Over all I think you'll be more satisfied remaking your designs from scratch because they will be 100% compatible to upload and sharing on the GC4 steam workshop.

I have imported most of my ship designs from GC 3 the only issue being the missing ship parts that were never added for some reason although i have queried this a number of time have never had an answer,same with my imported ships from the Epic GC4 and there was a lot, i could upload to the w/shop on epic but not the steam w/shop--always the same error..you can only upload your own designs ect..lol...
