Undo hide a design and Class name
At Ship Designer, we may click "crossed-out eye" icon to "Temporarily hide this design". How do we undo this, to let a hidden design show up again? The ship design is gone already.

Also, how do we update the "Class name" of a custom ship that was made before?

Thanks.

Temporary hiding a design removes it from view in the ship desiner for the duration of your game. It basically obsoleted the design and took it out of your current game session. It cannot be undone in the current game session. To see the ship design again you would need to start a new game.

I presume if design was saved as ship template you can resave it as a ship design in the class that it needs to be updated to.

"Hide" implies the ability to "Unhide", so this should be renamed and re-icon'd to "Delete".

If you read the warning dialogue pop-up it asks you if you want to obsolete the design which implies that its going be hidden for remainder of your current game.

There is no unhide option once you choose to hide AKA obsolete a design. You might want to consider asking for the option to be added to the game. At this time there is no way to unhide after hiding by obsoletion of a design in the ship designer. Please make a request for the option.

I'm not trying to argue with you I'm just informing you how it works.

Delete however deletes completely, while hide allows to get the design next game.
But it is a valid request, to have an unhide button somewhere :lunar2019wavingpig:

I would never expect "Delete" in one playthrough to delete things in another playthrough; each playthrough is an independent session and your actions in one never carry over into another

You most definitely do not want it to as there are ships you absolutely do not want to even obsolete/ hide for any reason much less permanently. The base "civilian" ships colony constructor and any you get for "free" as that is the only version that allows events like draft colonists.

Thank you to clarify what it actually is. I was not expect this for "Temporary hiding this design" means permanent for current game session.

Agreed. The combination of "Temporary" and "hide" was very confusing.

Developers, don't you feel players new to GalCiv will have confusions as well? I'm referring the Ship Designer in game, which is available as one of choices on every shipyard.

When I saw "Temporarily hide this design", I was thinking that those hidden will not show up on cluttered Build List at shipyard, but I could always get back to them to have them "unhide" when I need for the same current game session. There are not many spaces on the right side panel of shipyard to have many designs. It gets cluttered very soon.

This should be a feature to be added: Allow hide or unhide ship designs on the Build List of every shipyard on the same game session.

There are three options to view ship designs in the ship designer as follows:

*show all ship designs
*show core ship designs
*Show user ship designs only

The options are the small icons at top of your ship listings column in the ship designer. This sorts your custom ship designs and the default ship designs so you don't need to hide ships you don't want to see in the list.

I now encounter a consequence of this game design decision for "Temporary hiding this design means permanent for current game session": An event "Disciples" failed to provide a "Gain Colony ship."

Why? The cause might be that default Colony Ship Design was being "Temporary hiding this design" (yep, it was too slow; I made a faster custom Colony Ship Design).

Now the game event needs a fix to search through to find a Colony ship, or something else I guess.

I disagree, what you need to do is go to the top of the ship list just to the left and below the A in available are 3 little icons the ship icon shows "all" the ships available to build.
The cog icon shows the game designed ships available, the ones you do not want to obsolete, it hides the ships the player "makes".
The third one shows all the ships the player "made".
If by some bit of bad luck you mistakenly "obsolete/delete" a ship save the game exit say "returno le Shipo" 3 times restart the game and they will be right there and you can continue your game

Zabik, Airmaster, FYI you can "hide" the original ships See post #10.
If you wish to "Hide" the ships you make you can do that also just obsolete them.
To get any obsoleted ships back you need just restart the game.
Found this out because at one point probes were IIRC some how dropped from the menu of ships so I designed one.
Almost the same day a hot-patch put the starting probes back in since then however that %*&%#@%$#@$%^& ship has shown up in every game when I restart the game or save.
I know I can delete the ship in question, I'm just too lazy to go through the files and find it.

The thing was 1) event happened, 2) I made a choice, and 3) there was no given Colony Ship as stated.

I tried but never saw such thing of "3 times restarts" at all, or I'm at complete lost about what you stated, sorry. The event had nothing to do with what had happened to Ship Designer several turns ago I think. So I assume the built-in colony ship is gone for good, as Airmaster elaborated.

I save after every turn if you do not then that might well be the problem you have now with it not coming back.
I also verify files as soon as I quit the game.
And I also did an "exit" restart exiting the game completely verify files restart
Still there is no need with the ability to hide the starting ships to Obsolete them.

Let me highlight again:

1) I do have a Colony ship design, and it is custom better Colony ship design, available to be built right at every of my shipyard.

2) The event "Disciples" promised a given Colony ship.

3) It failed to deliver a Colony ship.

Yeah, unfortunately there are always those that will defend whatever is in game to the death.

This is a great - dare I say wonderful - game, but that one caught me out as well. HOI4 or hell any other game 'hide' or 'make obsolete' or how ever you want to phrase it means you can still get it back if you need to. 'Delete' or 'remove' could just as easily be presented to the player and make much more sense.

I love the post defending not using the word delete as 'but but might not be available in other play throughs' said no one ever... until that post.
