Ship designs
Hi, is there any way to avoid the game creating new ship designs when a new tech is discovered? I would like to control the designs manually and completely...

They don't want to have the chore of obsoleting all the the preset designs. This is a major annoyance for myself. You'll see me cleaning up my ship list constantly when I'm streaming. I have a request and a temp solution for this.

The request is an option that prevents the AI from updating presets when new ones becomes available so I can design all my own ships. Especially military ships because none of them are useful.

The temp solution is there is a filter on the top you can select between All ship, custom ships and core ships. Just click the filter for custom ships only.

If you want to control designs manually and completely, you can always create your own designs. To make it faster, you can always start with a duplicate of existing design (including it's modules) and then update your design only when you want to.

The idea of auto-proposed designs is for them also to auto update

I really dont understand what you propose, sorry. I mean, I would like to start a Game with no premade designs at all.

You have to start game with essential ships in order to explore, survey and create your first starbase. Without construction ships you're not going to be able to do anything to expand and grow. They are essential to mining resources for ships and planetary infrastructure and economy.

You do this and you will get none of the free colony, constructors or asteroid ships. Or the colony ships from using control points. This includes the free warships you get with tech.
You can just ignore the ships in your build menu.

Ok, thanks all. I dont like to have my military ships predesigned, thats all. I could live without the gifted warships.

Than why not design your own custom ships as mentioned by zlAblik?

Starting game without ships does not make any sense. You can't build ships without resources. You can't mine resources without building a ship to construct facilities to mine resources. How do you propose to protect your core home world without military ships?

It is impossible to play this game without ships to jumpstart your race. You will not be able to advance your race or progress your game without using ships.

I don't think you fully understand how this game is played.

I pretty much redesign every ship. Here some of my examples:

- Colony, Constructor, Supply ship all can use more movement. So interstellar drive + unshielded thruster.
- freighter are almost useless without the Probe module to give them unlimited range.
- military ships tend to have resource requirements when it's not needed, and no defenses which is desperately needed.

So I'm basically wiping out the entire list of predesigned ships, every single game. So I'd just rather have an option to have them not generate.

You got It!!
I fully understand the Game, believe me, owning all galciv from 2 to 4, but as Illauna said, never liked the preset ships, and was hoping that in this iteration would be different. Anyway thanks for the responses

zlAblik and I both mentioned why not make your own custom ships and create your own custom ship set style from them in the Civ builder.

You said you did not understand what was proposed and never elaborated further regarding making your own custom ships to which made me come to the conclusion you didn't fully understand the game by what we were suggesting. Your ommission to answer the suggestion to making your own custom ships led to the confusion.

And your answer above is why there was a misunderstanding because you did not answer or elaborate any further regarding the suggestion of creating you own ships.

That is correct, I didnt explain It very well. English is not my native language, and writing from a smartphone changing and correcting everything I write is a hell :steamfacepalm:
But thanks anyway, I can use the method exposed by Illauna and continue from there

I suggest marking zlAblik response as the answer to your post topic as he was first to correctly answer your question.

Glad I can help. Yeah as I said I frequently run into the same problem. I already shared feedback a few times so hopefully in the future there is an option to not have to clean up all the predesigned blueprints.

I can't seem to build any ships but the templates provided in their "operational class", so if i wanted to put engines on a long ship that can carry more engines, like a cargo class ship, it'd have to use one of the predefined role specific modules, which would negate any benefit of that flexibility of _building your own ship_. Is there a trick to this? a technology? anything that might give me agency over my own ships?!

Hey, I am not sure I am getting the issue here?
Predefined ships are usually fine, but you can specialize them, by replacing modules, you like more.
Ships have limited cargo space, so that you can place only specific amount of modules.

There are techs, which increase place for modules on ships.

Or did I miss the question?
