[Splinter Cell Chaos Theory] - Sound Problem (Can't hear Radios, Generators, Thrown Objects, Glass...)
I'm hoping someone might be able to offer me some advice please.
I have a sound problem where I can't hear Radios, Generators, Thrown Objects... etc. Also, the Sound Meter constantly keeps getting stuck at a high level. What I mean is, if lets say, I throw a glass bottle, 1# I don't hear it break, 2# the sound meter doesn't just spike when the bottle breaks, it jumps and stays high, so from then on even when totally still not moving at all, enemies keep hearing me as the game thinks I am making loads of noise.

Anyone got any clue to the cause of this??? I've read a lot of posts regarding sound issues, but not specifically this exact issue :(

Thanks

You need to let us know a few things like what OS do you have? What's your sound setup? (sound card? motherboard? hdmi? 5.1/7.1? microphones?). The only sound issues I had was enabling EAX on my creative sound card but I never had any issues.
I have the same problem, where can i find the information you need..? "The Specs" i guess?

Also sorry for replying a four year old topic but there aren't any other except this. Maybe i should've create a fresh one with same questions.. Well... :c

Hey, no problem at all, I totally forgot this thread was still open.

I did find the fix for this sound bug shortly after posting about it. However, I'm so sorry I really can't remember how I fixed it, I've sat here for the past 20 minutes thinking about it but I really don't remember as it was 4 years ago.

I'll keep the thread open and if I do remember or find something that might help I'll reply and/or msg you.
Couple of things to try if you haven't already:

• Install the oldest driver possible for your GPU (video card), it will suck having to roll back and then update it again for another game but it's a very old game so it's worth a try and I do remember doing that myself.
• Run the game in Windows 7 or XP SP3 compatibility mode

Wow, thank you for your fast reply and effort to help! I appreciate it a lot! It's okay though, i wouldn't want to bother anyone for this especially after four years. I was so frustrated at the time and said "f it, just comment." to relieve the stress. Wasn't even expecting to get a reply, thank you again!

My laptop is pretty outdated in any aspect anyway but i didn't think of downgrading the GPU driver, gonna give it a shot.
I've tried the XP SP3 compatibility mode but not W7. I'll check that option too.

Thank you again!

Hey matey, I'm sorry as it was about 7 years ago I really don't remember.

The only thing I do remember was I kept Google searching and checking Reddit and different forums, i eventually found the answer and it was quite a simple and easy fix.

And of course that it was sooo worth it going back to play this amazing game again :)

I'll have a quick search online and see if I can find something for you
I'm sorry, I can't find it but I know it's definitely out there as I found it and played through the game.
I think it's something to do with "EAX" which if I remember is some really old sound software but I'm really stretching my memory on that one.
Not sure if still relevant, but in my case it was like this : file STREAM.SS0 should be in \Data\Sounds, while for some reason in my folder it was in \Data.
