Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

Controller or Keyboard?
Ah, the age old question, console or PC? In this case, controller vs keyboard for this game on PC. Personally, I've always been akin to the console controls (I grew up with the PS2 version), and the keyboard/mouse combo feels... Off, in these games. I don't know, I was curious if anyone felt a particular way about it.

I don't really know or care what's better. I just used a controller because it's comfortable for me in third person games.

The game isn't really difficult enough for it to matter, tbh.

Fair, fair. I never personally was able to wrap my head around the analog emulation in the keyboard/mouse using the mouse wheel, that in particular was more my question, if people felt that was comfortable at all.

I preferred the controller when playing the SCs on the 2001 Xbox, However, because of the changes made to the later series Xbox, (conformation and sensitivity) I'm having difficulty making precision moves

Like the controller itself is difficult to work with or you play it on a Series console? I personally like my Series X controller for this.

To clarify, 2001 X, at the end of Chaos theory Bathhouse in the furnace room just past the locked cage, I set up of 3 sticky cams so that I can distract the 3 guards that follow Sam from the shower room while I disarm the 3 bombs and then exit the area without KOing any and not being ID'd.

With the 2001 X controller all the buttons required to quickly access cams to switch between them to disorient the guards was simple. With the later including the win 10 PC version of the controllers the buttons have been moved and or removed.

With the win 10 PC, there isn't an adapter software that mimics the 2001 forcing double button pushes, (holding one down while tapping another) was too confusing for me.

Recently I was searching for information on adjusting the sensitivity of the series X controller analog towers, (dampening down) barely moving the movement tower has Sam moving way too fast and the AI hears him way too often. I found one thing online but I wasn't able to access the option described in the directions given.

I think for CT I prefer controller because of the analog stick for controlling Sam's movement speed.
Though, I don't like aiming with an analog stick so I also use gyro to get that nice precision.
The default mouse+keyboard control scheme isn't terrible, mouse wheel to control movement speed took me a little bit to get used to.

Fair enough, although I don't think anything gets precision with Sam's shooting abilities. Especially since he can't aim to save his life (rather literally). Lol

Yeah, its just hard sometimes to get your crosshair right on a camera or something you wanna zap with the OCP when its really tiny and all you got is the stick. That's where gyro helps me the most.
Nah, the EMP device on the pistol hits it's mark every time, same with the SK-2000 rifle when using the foregrip and the scope attachments, I'm talking actually firing it as your cross hair can be perfectly lined up and perfectly centered and steady and Sam can fire at point-blank range and still completely miss and hit something on the side of the screen instead. Splinter Cell's always had that problem and this is a common complaint I hear from a LOT of people that I've talked to that have played it. Shooting just isn't even an option, it'd be one thing if it was like Hitman and shooting was just not a VIABLE option, but here it's just NOT an option to begin with.

So, this does have controller support? If not, that's a deal breaker, and Steam doesn't say it does.

You'll need SCFix, which also has a thread on this forum:

The PC port for CT is decent but its very much a product of its time and hasn't been patched in a very long time, so the community has made their own fixes.

Speaking of, I also recommend the Widescreen Patch:

I just purchased the game. Any tips on creeping? Either with keyboard or controller, Sam is always running no matter how light I press key or joystick.

Okay so you need a specific fan made patch to play using a controller much at all, and once you get that running, you gotta use the analog stick for its intended purpose, precise movements, not just full throttle. For keyboard, you gotta use the scroll wheel to control your speed.
