SCFix: Full support for your 360/XB1 controller
Hi all,
I wanted to play Chaos Theory again and couldn't find a good way to get my Xbox pad working, so I put this together. I haven't tested it on any other systems than my own, and I've only actually tried it with the Uplay version, so any feedback is appreciated.

Instructions:
1. Grab this file and unzip it: https://ab1.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/scfix_0_1.zip
2. Drop the four files inside into the "System" subfolder of your Chaos Theory install. (They should be beside splintercell3.exe)
3. Make sure your gamepad (if wireless) is turned on before you start the game.
4. Go to Settings->Controls->Joystick and press "Default". Do NOT skip this step, even if you know you haven't previously changed the controls- it is still necessary.

The controls should now match the Xbox 360 version, which in turn are a match for the original Xbox version (with appropriate black/white -> bumper substitutions). In particular, the triggers will now work correctly.

You can invert the right stick vertically and/or horizontally using the self-explanatory options in scfix.ini.

TODO:
Rumble is not supported currently. If anyone plays this game using a non-xbox controller with native rumble (Rumblepad 2 etc), can you let me know whether the game actually supports vibration at all? If it does, I can look into adding it to SCFix. I won't attempt it unless someone confirms, since it might be a colossal waste of time :)

Finally! Thanks a lot! I can finally play this game as I did on my xbox when I was a kid. I didn't had any idea how to play it but now I can retake this gem of a game. M&k controls are awful

Thanks everyone for the feedback on this so far!

I can't make any promises or commit to a particular schedule, but I do have some plans for a new version that should allow it to work with every controller, including the steam deck

Thank you for the work you've put in, playing Chaos Theory with my XB1 controller feels so good. It's working great! I have a quick question, does this work with Double Agent as well? I could have sworn I saw someone mention this, but I did skim through a few days later (today) after getting into CT.

Hey. Thanks for this, but I'm having the issue that my game doesn't recognize that I have a joystick plugged in. The joystick option is greyed out in the settings menu.

Is there a fix for this? I'm using an Xbox 1 controller by USB.

I can NOT fix the spinning camera issue. Have tried deleting the backup settings files and turning the joystick off then on again in the game settings; still spinning. After screwing with this all afternoon/evening, I can say with 100% certainty something in the dinput8.dll file is causing the base game sensing the input for the right stick to just stop. The right stick does not respond *at all*, but I can click R3 to go into EEV and it sense that movement fine. So the problem is somewhere in the base rotation.

Specifically the camera looks hard at the floor and spins clockwise, regardless of right stick input. And I can make that stop by simply moving dinput8.dll...but that breaks the *rest* of the fix and sets you into using the base game's terrible gamepad support.

Also, YES, the PC port *does* have vibration support in the code somewhere. It's part of a couple of the base game mechanics(like lockpicking and some of the other minigames) so had to be ported over.

The frustrating part about this is that this *should* work and was the very first fix I tried. I've gotten like 2 other fixes working using Xpadder and JoyToKey...but I can't invest Y for either of those. Can only figure out how that works for this, but it's pointless because the camera has lost its mind. I'm playing a non-steam copy and using an Xbox One controller connected via Bluetooth on Win10.

Follow Nalydyenlo's fix instead. I had a spinning camera issue from OP's fix and tried everything you tried as well. Using Nalydyenlo's fix lets you bind the triggers. And no camera spin bug!

SRT12's solution works grand for me, but I have my own fix that I use.

I found that the Xbox 360 controller almost works without any tweaking. The only problem is that the triggers aren't detected by the game - everything else works and can be mapped in the game's joystick menu.

Here's the fix that I came up with using XinputPlus which converts the Xinput of the controller's triggers to DirectInput and maps them to unused buttons 11 & 12. It solves the issue and works as good as SRT12's solution. It might work as an alternative for some people.

Apologies if this has been asked before, can this be applied to other splinter cell games like the first one? I’ve been playing chaos theory on my steam deck and I’m so happy I’ve been able to play it when I’m moving about.

this only seems to work to detect the xbox 360 version, not the xbox controller.
Not sure why or what needs to be done to play with the xbox one controller as it just will not work, other steam games detect the controller with no issues

I am also having this exact same problem. There's no direct control over movement speed. It makes it literally impossible to sneak up behind enemies as they hear me and do a quick 180 and start shooting.

Joystick is also greyed out in my options menu.

Using an Xbox Series controller connected via usb cable.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Update: I discovered that going to "Controller Layouts" in the Chaos Theory main steam page has a list of available controller schemes with inputs for controlling movement speed.

I just downloaded one of them to try out and it works perfect.

It recognises my Xbox Series controller no problem.

Hope this helps anyone else who's had this issue.

Hey, my joystick option in the controls menu is suddenly greyed out and I can't use it. I was using it just fine a minute ago but suddenly it's gone. I tried reinstalling but no dice and my controller is definitely on.
