given how much the game discourages open fighting though, I'm not entire sure whether that is just old design or if it was done deliberately.
Thanks! I imagine it would be better if I use a controller?
Will the PC version work with a game controller?
Does anyone here use an xbox/pc controller?
I used a xbox360 controller....works great.
On release it was the better game, and I will always remember this as the absolute best that splinter cell ever was. But against modern games, the controls definitely don't stack up.
For one thing they are too over-complicated, with too many keys/buttons for what is essentially the same thing, like using things, equipping weapons, vision modes and so on.
I just installed and started playing it again now for the first time in probably 5 years or so, maybe longer, and I will try to force myself to keep going until I get used to it again, but after just finishing blacklist for the second time, it won't be easy.
Honestly it isn't clunky to control and the mouse wheel to control movement speed is good and easy to use, roll all the way down then up three clicks and you have a nice quiet but quick movement speed. Also any ledge you think you can grab onto in this game you can, unlike Conviction and Blacklist that limit you to prompt based jumps initiated by the action button.
It feels old in the sense that it hasn't been dumbed down to an overly simplified one button does 5 things setup, but seriously when you work out all the controls it becomes a great proper stealth experience that is still superior to Blacklist in my opinion, for example you can wirelesly hack computers by using your binoculars which is awesome. It really isn't that complicated to play even in this day and age of over simplified games ;)
How can you say the game has too many inputs for a controller? I have the original SC 1-4 xbox games and all game items are accessible via the original xbox controller including cam switching in CT.
Truly, it doesn't matter to me if it's an Xbox controller or 3rd party product as long as the controllers size and button layout are similar to the xbox, (muscle memory and big hands) and it'll work with steams SC PC version.
As for multi cam setups, as far as I can remember I use the option 1 time at the end of Bathhouse. My game MO is ghost, to police my material, for -0- evidence.
Anyone here have a preferred PC controller that works with SC and steam?
Fisrt splinter cell I've played was blacklist. Really really enjoyed it. That's why I decided to play the rest. Played the first one on PC and men! The problem with earlier 3D games is when it aged it does not age well. Not a big fan of the controls especially the speed control using the scroll btn. I skipped Chaos Theory and played double agent since I thought it's the latest before conviction. The controls are pretty much the same or in some cases worst. But atleast the graphics improved bigtime.
Yes, conviction was very like that. And it really didn't matter if you went stealth or not even on highest difficulty.
You could basically run through most of the levels and you barely had to aim and Sam would perform headshots on the run with even the worst pistol.
However, blacklist changes that a lot. Sure, it's still not as "hardcore" as chaos theory, and the first mission, while short, is pretty much just a "use cover here", "move to cover here" tutorial. It only lasts about 15 minutes, and after that you are free to play how you like, the stealth is far more unforgiving and if you are caught in the open on the perfectionist difficulty, then you're definitely going to die, especially in the later missions.
I would highly recommend blacklist, it's a great game and even a very good splinter cell game. Conviction is just an alright, ok-ish action game. Not in the slightest bit decent as a splinter cell game, even with Michael ironside as Sam.
