Character gender - Female or male?
So I've tried to find out this information elsewhere to no avail, I know we can apply skins to the character but what pronouns are used towards us ingame? I thought this game had customization but reading reviews all the language I'm finding is male-specific....is this indeed the case? Gonna be real sad if it is as it looks great otherwise, just not down for being misgendered constantly.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback! I can confirm Nyanza is genderless and never refered to as a gender throughout the game :)

I hope you enjoy Kitaria Fables!

From what I've seen so far in the game (about an hour in as of this post) nobody seems to refer to the player character with gendered language.

Its whatever gender you want it to be.. you know.. since its a cat and you cant really tell what gender cats are without getting personal with it...

Thank you! I'm still perturbed as to why so many early reviewers referred to the character as male though, honestly I hope this thread convinces more people to buy the game as pretty much every game I follow always has people asking this specific question at some point.

and to the rude people in the thread, would you like it if I referred to you by the opposite gender? if I forced you to play a character you don't relate to/view as yourself in games with character creation? I doubt you would. It's easier to put yourself in a character's shoes and pretend that character is indeed you, when the game doesn't insist you are a specific gender that you're not.
Honestly I wish more devs would do nonbinary or genderless options as it shouldn't matter but making a character relatable to everyone vs only some is always going to get more sales in most genres.

I wouldn't really care. People regularily misgender me because I use profile pictures of characters I like(or when they make a funny face that'd be funny to have as a profile picture) and I don't play games for what character you play as. In fact for characters with a character customization, I generally choose female. If I'm gonna have to look at a character's butt for 50 hours or something hours(because the camera is behind the character in third-person), I might as well like looking at it.

On top of that, I've found that alot of people who go on and on about wanting to be "represented" never put their money where their mouth is. I had a friend who that was important, but they only ever played games with a male protagonist(they disliked voice acting thats higher-pitched, which is frequently female).

Actually, I'd say it's pretty ignorant to expect the entire gaming industry and it's fan base to cater to YOU and YOUR issues of 'being misgendered' in a game.

You're not playing as YOU, you're playing as the character in the game; NOT. YOU. Get over yourselves.

Cool that you wouldn't care but other people do. Try to put yourself into other people's shoes for a minute and you would realize that your last statement was pretty dumb and bigoted.
except it wasn't "dumb and bigoted", and what Shev just said is on-point.

People care way to much about stuff like this today. Does it really matter that much whether some virtual cat person is called he or she?

And this kind of self important crap is what makes the community look like ♥♥♥♥.

Seriously it's embarrassing to be associated. If it's a hardcore RPG with a detailed character creator, sure, care about your pronouns.

YOU PLAY AS A CAT.

I wouldn't care. At all. And neither does any sane person. Only 1% of special snowflakes think this is an issue. Sorry but that is the truth.

Your opinion is causing second hand embarrassment if I'm being forward.

Seeing as you already called someone a bigot for no reason I'm assuming you're one of those people who find a new game on day 1 release to extort the indie dev team into making some woke public Twitter post to assure they're aligned with you politically, or else you send a bunch of goons to harass and review bomb. When will it ever end

(White) privilege, everyone.

No, I don't have a problem with playing characters of the opposite gender. No, I don't have a problem with characters that have views that are not shared by me. I enjoy playing as big burly men who shoot big bad stuff. I enjoy playing as caring women who take care of everyone. I don't care what pronouns you use with me or what gender you think I am. If you genuinely have a problem with being unable to act in the shoes of another character in a videogame or any other media, or even in real life, then I would suggest reading this:
