Is BMX just faster than skates/board?
First time messing around with it and I could swear it's faster to move with, but on the flip side it's slower to get tricks going on rails. Am I being schizo?

you could be right? ive noticed manuals are faster though meaning theyre technically LONGER (as in you can cover more distance on a manual). Ive noticed skates are faster on rails too so i think they all have diff properties outside of their special movement abilities like breaking floor glass and bike doors

yeah better manuals for sure on BMX. Skates seem extra bad on their slides. I guess Board is like a middle ground?

i think so, i feel like the skates might be to be built best for tricks. Not too fast on rails, not too slow on manuals. Tony would be proud i suppose?

The game does a really bad job of telling the player certain mechanics. The skates can break glass ceilings by sliding on them, the skateboard can trick off of the red fire hydrant things to gain height, and the bike can open bike doors by just standing in front of them with the bike out.

This games tutorials are really bad, most of the tips that the characters text you are most likely already figured out well past the time you receive them and the game just does not tell you about the Bike Doors, Skate Glass, or the Hydrants at all. Especially since one of the most basic techniques that would be extremely helpful to an early player is not mentioned until the last area of the game.. (Holding the manual button while at the end of a rail will do a small hop off and guarantees a manual boost on the ground). I think this game needed a bit more time in the oven because sometimes it feels like the devs didn't take into consideration what it's like to play without devtools/prior knowledge. 90% of my gripes with this game are QOL stuff that can be easily fixed with an update, which I hope they do in the future.

tested ground speed and then manual distance
tldr: for ground movement I could not get a noticeable change in speed vs distance traveled when I swapped my ride. bike manual is the furthest traveling manual traveling a bit further then the skateboard, and about double the distance skates go.

I did all testing in the hideout starting at the trench drain next to the taxi sign. After timing myself traveling form the drain to the end of the path, my average time was ~7 seconds and that did not noticeable changed when I road something different.
For manualing I only inputting manual from a stand still, as a note starting from normal speed and/or turning left and right should not effect the amount of time you can manual for compared to standing still. Ill be comparing their scores as a timer and distance traveled. bike traveled the furthest with 752 ending about 3/4 of the way through the stairs, skateboard was fairly close behind with 708, stopping close to half way, while skates were far behind at 404, stopping at about the taxi line.

So basically, bikes are best and skates are bad?

Don't forget also that when on your feet and doing free running, you gain a high jump. You simply do a trick and then immediately press and hold jump. This is also never explained and is necessary to get to a bunch of areas and things, lol.

OH SO THATS WHAT YOU NEED FOR HYDRANTS??

bro this whole time I was assuming I would unlock something for that and then the game ended.

Like, bike gates are obvious, it has a picture of a bike on it. I'm assuming the hydrants are a Natas Spin reference? The skates are a full stop question mark though

at like a 20 ish trick combo (closer to 15 if you already have full boost) you can enter an infinite Slide>slide-trick>boost-trick>slide-trick>boost-trick loop anyways. So even if the skates had literally no advantages and were just straight worse than everything else, woulnd't actually make much of a difference. The game on the whole is pretty easy and not intended to be difficult.
