Anyway to increase the FOV ingame?

1. Navigate to your Far Cry 1 directory, create a "mods" folder.
2. Install this mod, extract it into your mods folder.

3. Launch Far Cry
4. In the mods section of the main menu, select FarOut widescreen and launch it.
5. In the graphics settings you should see an FOV slider

This mod not only gives you an FOV slider but also fixes many bugs of Far Cry, namely enemies will stop shooting you through tents and it will fix the hud to be widescreen compatible.

Also, note that you should not run Far Cry on very high lightning quality as this can cause crashing to occur. The game is very old and it's not easy to fix something this ancient.

You could also try FCAM mod, not only it increases FOV but adds ton of other improvements

But why exactly is the multiplayer not there anymore? I couldn't find some good information

Generally speaking, reasons why a game's online server can be retired range from, the server technology becomes outdated, if there is lesser demand for the online game modes from players, or the team has moved on to focus on a newer game in the series, among other reasons.
