Upgrade, downgrade or something else?
Let me explain with a specific example.
The company created two portable consoles in the 1980s. In the 1990s, it became clear that the development was stuck in technology (screen). I focused to creating a stationary console. As a result, my two current consoles have a different technical level.

MGT does not able to port from console to console. I'm wondering if there's any way to port a game from a more technologically advanced console to an older one (stationary to portable) without developing a supposedly new game? For obvious reasons (money and time costs, as well as the fact that MGT will consider such a "port" an independent unit), I would prefer a different tool.

Obviously, porting a game to a more technological generation is an expensive and time-consuming process. But in theory, downgrade should be much easier?

Last I checked, you could remaster a game to a lower tier console, as long as said console was still available (can't retro-remaster a game.)

I know, I know, semantics. Let's not argue about it when "remasters" and "ports" are mechanically the same thing in all but name. The tool is there to be used, whether you use it or not is up to you.

Well, a remaster is not the worst option for a downgrade. But can a remaster be done right after the release (or at the same time)? Can't test it myself now

No, if you look at the tooltip for remasters, it will tell you they can only be done with games which were already taken off the market. You can remaster a game one week after it goes off the market (Slow/Marathon speed with lots of development employees, or normal speed with a potentially CPU-breaking number of development employees,) but unlike ports, you can't release them along with the original version.

Then this is not suitable, because I want to release a game and downgrade at the same time or with a delay of no more than 3-6 months =(

In fact, the previous generation portable console is the flagship, and the modern stationary console is a temporary solution. Therefore, I do not want to wait for the end of sales on a more modern console, if only because of authenticity

I fixed the problem of staggered handheld consoles via modding, so I don't know if there's a way to fix that under 'vanilla' conditions. Staggered handheld consoles are one of the things that have needed fixing for a long time. But instead, we get Game Asses and Subsimons.

Did you add advanced screen for portable console or what kind of modding?

I added handheld tiers that aren't in the game originally, and modified all hardware so parts come out for both types of console at the same dates - screens come out at the same time as fans. I know there's mods that fix that in similar ways that are available in the "guides" section.

This is not for me. I like the atmosphere of the vanilla game. I'll wait, maybe the developer will visit this thread
