How do Ki-companies decide if they buy your engine?
If I create a new egine, but only add the best features, are the engines still attractive for ki-companies?

The NPCs buy the engines randomly and usually rather the newest, had actually always sold the same whether with all features or only with the best.

Two things you can do to have a *slightly* better chance of them buying it, is to make sure your engine has the latest tech, and it's cheaper both in the upfront price, and the percentage cut.

I've got my engine bought by ten companies in my current run, making it $0 and one percent less than the current AI engine that has as many features as mine.

They're not really "money making machines" but an unreliable, small income on the side of what your games can bring in. Making an engine is just useful since you won't be losing 5%+ of your profit using AI engines.

I once got $70 million for an engine (10% share)

70 millions at the point of the game where you were? "Small income" applies, and "unreliable" isn't negated at all. I'm not saying you *can't* have the AI buy your engines if you set their prices to their max value (or you "cheat" by changing the profit cut to 10% after someone buys it, since the game can only keep track of one "price" and one "profit cut" per engine you make,) just that the chances for it happening are low. Hence "unreliable."

Also, 70 million by the time AAA games are a thing you need to use for your own games is, well, "candy money." Even in Legendary. Self-published games can give you a stupidly high total profit, stupidly fast, - or an even higher total profit, much slower - using certain price ranges, without needing to play the engine roulette.
