It’s easy to feel like every RPG Maker game is the same when you’ve been playing games made with this engine for a long time. However, there are times you stumble upon some unique gems like Sylphy and the Sleepless Night that manage to impress you.

It puts you in the shoes of Sylphy, a thief who steals artifacts to get money for her sister’s treatment, who accidentally broke the jewel that contained the night’s spirit Lyla, freeing her and leaving the town with no night as a consequence. She then becomes the town’s slave and has to recapture Lyla within five days to recover her freedom, or else she’ll lose it forever.

Story-wise it’s decent. It’s not as dark as other games with similar premises like Crimson Colosseum, and it even includes some jokes and references here and there to break the tension. Moreover, it has several endings. Getting any of them depends on whether you manage to capture Lyla or not, as well as beating some specific foes and finishing some special quests.

One of the best things about the game is how solid and varied the gameplay is. You’ll be doing favors to the residents of the town that range from simple fetch quests to exploring dungeons and defeating their boss.

Dungeon exploring is similar to games like Ys and Longing Ring of Esca, in which you fight enemies by bumping into them. Boss battles, however, take place as the usual turn-based fights you’d find in any RPG. Furthermore, some missions feature elements from different genres, turning them into “Do X without getting caught” quests, first-person dungeon crawling, or even a rhythm game.

The skill system is also different than the norm. Here, you need to equip magic crystals you obtain either during quests or by purchasing them. Moreover, you're limited to 4 crystals, so you need to plan which skills you’ll use for each boss fight.

Whenever an H-event happens, you earn Eros points you can spend on any of the three skill trees available: Training, Prostitution, and Blessing. Upgrading the skills in the Training tree increases the stats and Eros points you gain during training, spending Eros points in the Prostitution tree lets you work in the brothel and get more money and Eros points when you work there, and using them in the Blessing tree increases your max HP and MP.

The game includes a new game+ mode, allowing you to start all over again while preserving your money, Eros points, stats, and so on. However, it lets you choose what you want to export to your next run, so you can attempt a virgin run while being strong enough to obliterate most enemies or do things a bit differently from your first run.

Artistically, it’s pretty. Both the characters and the sex scenes are very well drawn. Moreover, it includes a few details that make it stand out in a good way, like the option to show sound effects as if they were in a manga, putting icons in the menu options, and using a different font. As for the soundtrack, it’s nice to listen to, and it fits the scenes it plays in.

Sylphy and the Sleepless Night is an enjoyable game that anyone looking for an original and lewd RPG Maker game should play. The quality of its art and gameplay, plus its high replayability, makes the game worth purchasing at full price.

Extremely fun game, with tons of variety. The tone is great, with lots of jokes and minigames as distractions. There's also quite bit of content here, lots of costumes to collect, and scenes to see!

The goal of the game is to seal Lyla, the spirit of the night in six days -- or face a permanent fate as a slave to the people. Unfortunately, capturing a spirit is easier said than done! To lure her into the city, you must gather at least fifty residents to sing the Spirit Hymn, an ancient religious tradition lost to time. Some residents desire only her freedom. . . but most of them would rather take advantage of her desperation!

There are a wide variety of sex-scenes, which are typically a form of brainwashing or sexstortion. As a slave, the Sylphy is forced to comply with virtually anybody's requests — no matter how lewd. She has no rights. If (or rather when) she is raped, she's only herself to look to. By engaging in sexual content (consensual or not), you will gain "eros points". These points can be used to purchase upgrades or "qualities of a ♥♥♥♥♥" (allowing you to participate in prostitution!)

The gameplay balance is a little off, but this is a game meant to be played with a hand on the prize. I'm still pulling through this game (you know, hand on the prize), so you'll have to wait for me to finish the full-arse review. The lewd content is pretty hot, and so is Sylphy! I'm not usually a fan of H-cup boobies, but wowee! It's entertaining watching the protagonist's reactions to her woes. She'll even give you her thoughts on recent events whenever you pause!

In some distant kingdom, a king hides his greatest treasure inside his castle. The ten gems of misfortune that bring forth a whole lot of bad luck to those who possess them. But that won't stop a certain thief named Sylphy from sneaking into a box to steal them, something easy until she gets her hands on the gems, not knowing that it will just be the beginning of a real deluge of bad luck. After somehow managing to escape, our protagonist is informed of another very valuable gem that could free her and her sister out of poverty and accepts the job right after selling the ten gems, or so she thought. ^^

Arriving to the kingdom of Diezel, Sylphy begins to explore while learning that the place is not at all friendly to women. Their activities regarding women include making them slaves if they commit any kind of crime. Even so, our protagonist does not back off and will try to steal the jewel, just to find our she sold all the gems but one, and the one still in her possession will make our protagonist accidentally break the jewel she was supposed to steal, freeing the spirit Lyla, who uses her powers to make the night never fall on the kingdom. After that, Sylphy is captured and becomes a slave. Now she has the mission to capture back the spirit in five days and bring the night back, or she will be a slave until her body withers. ^^

Thus begins our protagonist's mission, to escape the fate of being a slave forever, in this RPG style adventure, while we try to get all the preparations done to get Lyla back once more. But we’ll come across two "small" problems. The first one is that to accomplish this, she’ll need fifty people. The secondly that Sylphy has only five days to do this, so with little time to spare she’ll need to do everything possible to get help from others, because the islanders will be willing to help, as long as the protagonist does favors to them first. ^^

Favors that include all sorts of things, like hunting monsters and finding items. The problem is that there is a special rule for female slaves, they have to wear a necklace that will make them obey any order that the islanders speak of. And Sylphy will learn this as she hears the islanders “pure” desires come out from their lips. Thus, our protagonist ends up entering several missions that at first seem normal, but where she’ll end without her clothes, being groped and having her body violated in the most "innocent" ways without being able to resist, making the escape from the island much more difficult and "pure". ^^

Produced by the Milky Way studio, the game presents us with a very beautiful art, especially the main girls in the story having cute faces and curvy bodies with or without clothes. There’s special emphasis on the character’s faces, which are very expressive, making it clear what they feel bundled together with the dialog lines which caused me to burst out laughing several times. In the music department we have a nice soundtrack, light most of the time and tense at the right moments, I just found it a little too loud at times, but nothing that some adjustment in the game’s configuration doesn't solve. ^^

Sylphy and the Sleepless Island has been an interesting experience for me. I had no previous experience with other works from the studio that produced it, so everything was new, along with the protagonist of the story knowing all the places on the island and being surprised by each one of the traps made by the various inhabitants of these lands. And there were several "innocent" scenes with the protagonist being abused and used in various ways by the natives of the island since the first night of her arrival. Whether she can escape or not, play and explore this world created by the Milky Way studio, and brought to English by Kagura Games. ^^

MECHANICS
Straightforward RPG-Maker gameplay. In Sylphy and the Sleepless Island (SSI), you control a single MC, exploring various locations while interacting with NPC’s and fighting monsters. Combat is simple and fast-paced: monsters are defeated by running into them, which costs a certain amount of HP. Only bosses require turn-based combat. The gameplay is spiced up by various mini-games, many of which require a decent amount of dexterity.

While the monsters and mini-games may offer a bit of resistance, the underlying challenge of the game is getting sexual experience as possible. This is not as easy as it seems, since you’ll have to complete the game within 7 in-game days. As many in-game activities take time, you’ll need to make tactical decisions on what to do with your days and nights. At the end of the game, you’ll even get a nice benchmarked graph with your results in this area.

STORY
You play as Syplhy, a poor girl who has resorted to thievery in order to pay for the treatment of her sick sister. During the intro, you take on a job to steal a magical artifact from Diezel Island. This goes wrong, and you accidentally release Lyla, the spirit of the night, from her magical prison. You are taking captive and bound with a slave collar, making you an involuntary servant of every inhabitant of the island.

Your only chance of getting free is catching Lyla again within 7 in-game days. This requires you to enlist the aid of as much other people as possible, in any way you can.

The story is light-hearted; while it features serious themes like sickness and slavery, none of that bothers Sylphy and her friends too much. Despite being a slave, Sylphy remains mostly in control of her own actions. The story has a number of different endings, which largely depend on the outcome of the final battle and the support you’ve gathered throughout the game.

QUALITY
SSI is one of the better game I’ve played in this genre. Most H-RPG’s struggle to find a good balance between actual RPG gameplay and hunting-for-lewd gameplay, and often fail at least one of those. SSI’s devs have made the clear choice to focus on the latter, which pays off. While it’s fairly easy to complete the game during your first playthrough, Syplhy will afterwards likely tell you that your performance was average at best. This offers a convincing incentive to play again, this time using your time management skills and knowledge of the game to the best of your ability.

The production quality of the game is pretty decent, too: sound, visual’s, menu’s and translations are all well done, and I didn’t encounter any bugs.


SUBJECT
SSI’s lewd is mainly about Sylphy’s sexual experiences. She starts out shy and somewhat reluctant, but is quickly convinced by the people and circumstances around her to loosen up. In addition, there are three other NPC’s - Sylphy’s sister and two girls she meets along the way – that have a few lewd scenes. In most early-game scenes, the girls are tricked, coerced or sometimes forced into sexual activity; later on, they do it voluntarily.

CONTENT
102 CG-based scenes, and a few (hi-res) animations. Many scenes recycle material, but there is still plenty of variety. The game also includes 16 different outfits for Sylphy to unlock.

ACCESS
You’ll encounter lewd by either agreeing to do stuff for NPC’s or by losing in mini-games. These events are all clearly marked in advance; I think it may be possible to complete the game without seeing lewd, although that’s evidently not what this game is made for.

Once you’ve seen a scene, it remains available in a recollection room in the inn. After completing the game once, a switch appears in the recollection room that allows you to unlock all scenes. There’s also a NG+ option which allows you to carry over stats, gold and more.

QUALITY
The lewd in SSI is excellent. Artwork and text are of high quality, and most notably, original. The artist and writer are remarkably good at putting a new spin on many of the classic tropes in the genre.

I wholeheartedly recommend SSI to any H-RPG-fan. It’s a well-crafted game in almost every aspect, with fast-paced gameplay, very good lewd and above-average amount of replayability. Get it while it’s (or you’re) hot! (Sorry, had to make that pun once).

Very well presented, but ultimately superficial Prostitution Sim made in RPGMaker. There's about 9hrs of gameplay to 100% it; although it could go on a fair bit longer if you were more focused on grinding out the JRPG combat; or quite a bit quicker if you were less interested in exploring every corner.

Prostitution sims tend to be pretty uninspired and same-y, and this is no exception.

Same issue with having a female protagonist that you deliberately walk into moral hazards in order to corrupt her - which breaks ludonarrative synergy.

Same issue with the character having spontaneous amnesia the second an event ends - walking around as if they hadn't just been sexually assaulted.

Same issue with boring clichéd scenes - just a tickbox effort of content inclusion.

Same issue with reusing assets constantly - instantly destroying any narrative significance to what the player is doing.


JRPG combat is almost always a rubbish element of eroge - fantasy combat has nothing to do with sex, and when you've played one RPGMaker JRPG you've played them all.
Fortunately this game abstracts out the combat - so while you're roaming through the thoroughly boring and barren dungeons, you can defeat enemies just by walking into them (at the cost of some HP).

Boss-fights do actually trigger typical JRPG combat where you've got the usual attack, guard, spells, items menu driven bunkum.
They're pretty brief, a couple of them have a few gimmicks to keep it fresh. They're fine, if boring and totally redundant. They still feel like padding, but fortunately it's not padding that is too cumbersome.


The game has a fundamental ticking-clock element (5 days until game over), which forces you to make trade-offs between your limited time; the gold you earn from doing quests and jobs; and your HP which depletes while doing various jobs as well as fighting monsters.

You can regain HP by resting - at the expense of time; or using potions - at the expense of gold.

So your playtime is spent rotating these resources trying to make net gains, whilst gaining the 50 victory points (towns people who will perform a ritual with you) needed not to lose automatically on the fifth day.

It's a tolerable game design, but not one I found particularly interesting.


There's a Pac-Man style maze game; there's two quirky dungeon-crawl events; there's a bemani minigame; there's a quick-draw game; there's a puzzle or two.

They break the game up a bit, and add a degree of polish, but they're not particularly fun or worthwhile on their own, and don't really make the game seem any less superficial.
Worse still, there's a couple of movement based puzzles which - as always - suck because RPGMaker's movement and hit-detection is fundamentally weak and ill-suited to these things.

All of them are fair, they all work fine, aren't too taxing, but they didn't really do anything to tackle the game's core deficiencies.


Don't get me wrong, the art's good, the main character's attractive enough, etc, etc. But as is typical for the genre; the publisher; and to a lesser extent, the medium - it's all rather weak and bland stuff.

Probably the biggest problem is how it constantly reuses art-assets non-stop, making about two thirds of its content entirely redundant. You can go to the recollection room at the end and see in the thumbnails "oh, it's identical pose with X random faceless NPC; now it's exactly the same scene even though it's happening with a completely different random faceless NPC".

Lazy, low-effort, low-value.

For a game with such a fundamental focus on slavery, and constant sexual assault, it's very tame and low-stakes. It leans into the "cutesy-oopsie" side of non-con tropes, which leads to some tonal issues.

It totally fails to make any meaningful use of the standard corruption tropes, so in that respect is very much inferior to competitors such as Tina: Swordswoman of the Scarlet Prison

The closest thing it has to narrative routes is that you can advance various prostitution jobs through increasing levels of kinkiness as you progress - but as there's typically only 4 events per job, and they're all open-ended, it falls completely flat.
So you get an unsatisfying combination of "ground hog day" repetition of events while you're waiting to progress; and then spontaneous amnesia of what has happened the second you leave the job and move on to something else.


The presentation is, as I said, slightly better than prostitution sims like President Yukino; Fallen ~Makina and the City of Ruins~; etc, etc It's roughly comparable to Treasure Hunter Claire - maybe a little tighter and more interesting.

But it isn't good enough to overcome the defects of the genre; it's not very good value for money; the content isn't particularly engaging; the sex scenes are bland.

If you love Prostitution Sims, then sure - this is another typical example, and it's way lighter in its non-con sensibility than most of the others (maybe with the exception of THClaire).

But I'd recommend skipping it for most people. Tina establishes a tolerable minimum standard for the genre, and if you've played that, you don't really need to play any others.
